Question about melatonin [modified]

How many people here have used or use melatonin to treat your sleep problems? If so how effective is it? I have heard it will help get you to sleep and give you a higher quality sleep. It also has been known to induce extremely vivid dreams. I was thinking about combining it with 5-HTP to get a good sleep when I need. -- modified at 21:04 Tuesday 28th November, 2006

if you want good sleep 1) increase your physical workout 2) if you have stress problems try meditation 3) drink extra water 4) quit coffee / tea 5) try to quit alcohol/cigarettes 6) good sex before sleep will do (only if you are eligible :laugh:) 7) balance you diet its your body and take care of it ,it will pay you back and vice versa :):)

So go and see another doctor, if they recommend drugs tell them you dont want drugs you want to treat the cause of the problem. Otherwise you are just masking the symptoms. My father suffered from depression for many many years and was treated with Zoloft, its a real illness just like heart disease or anything else. If you want you can email me and Ill tell you a bit about what I learnt through his experiance.

Btw, I should mention. If your heart's not pumping it's not real exercise. Even people that walk for health tend to "power walk" (basically briskly). Dragging along one foot after another (I don't know your story, just giving you info) isn't quite the same. Also, keep in mind, the weather can affect your mood. Bad moods can hurt your exercise session. If you don't like walking the rain and snow for exercise then you owe it to yourself to find a new means of getting it in.

Life should NEVER be taken for granted. Even at 41, I could have 60 years left, or 6 hours left. No moment, no part of life should be taken for granted. Chances are I have about 20-40 years left depending on internal damage, no one can really say until things start failing. Life is as long as life is, no more, no less, enjoy it while it lasts and never take one moment for granted!

do it not as work but enjoy it play out door games uninstall all game on your pc join any near by stadium for any game you are interested in (i prefer swimming ) restrict your use of internet and what waste stuff you surf and create a time table for you and follow it not like others you created before as far as i think you must had given your iq test try giving you bmr test keep your body moving quit laziness take frequent brakes from your system and you are not old enough to buy alcohol then you must do a lot care of your body and need any help further seek a doctor / physiotherapist :)

didn't you ever read chemistry if you read it you should know that we a mix of chemicals and there is practically nothing natural every natural (organic compound ) can be created from chemicals (inorganic compounds) and don't fool your self with advertising campaigns the manufactures will always say that but if you go deep they are all creating them in labs and from chemicals :)

It was a joke. Refer to my other post about how it doesn't mean it's good for you. Also, a lot of naturally occuring things aren't as bad for you in small dosages. Catch the drift? In fact, some things that are good for you in small dosages are very bad for you in large ones (like trace minerals for instance) and this is all natural stuff.

I no longer suffer from depression except maybe a mild down day every now and then. It used to be extremely bad but time and mental effort allowed me to get passed it. My only problem now is slight anxiety at times and sleep problems occasionally. I don't have the money for doctors and such and I don't think I need them any more. I'm interested in 5-HTP because it provides a light mood lift and calming effect(great for those anxious days or in social situations) together with melatonin should provide good sleep which should prevent me from falling back into depression. Oh and Kava looks very interesting, I will try it eventually.

Say yes or whatever sounds good for that situation. However the 5-HTP would be helpful especially in a situation were I have to deal with a lot of customers at work.

No flicker that I can see, I know what you mean about flicker it used to give me headaches in junior high school, but I haven't seen a flickery flourescent in many years. They all have little electronic ballasts in them, they probably can't visibly flicker. I could have used other types of lights, but when I calculated it out even with all the lights blazing everywhere in the house and additional new lamps I added it still came to a quarter the electricity that just the basic incandescent lights we used to leave on consumed. I went to Walmart and filled up a shopping basket and changed every one in the house. The bathroom has one of those crazy fixtures over the mirror with 6 light bulbs in it behind a cover, I replaced them all with the brightest whitest flourescents and now when you flick it on it's almost like staring into the sun. The main issue is that the bulbs are physically longer so I had to leave off some of the covers in the ceiling lights, but personally I think they're stupid anyway, why restrict the amount of light coming out? Of course my wife doesn't agree, but I promised to put the covers back on in spring when it get's bright out again (but actually I'm hoping to find bigger fixtures). Halogen is my absolute least favorite light source these days. It's so hot and throws out UV that you need a glass filter over it, badly inefficient, bright but not efficient. The flourescents are ultra bright and if you get the daylight kind, not the kind that mimic the yellowy tones of incandescents then suddenly you see your house in a whole new light so to speak. As if someone just ripped the roof off and the sun is shining in. It's really a weird thing to go from incandescent to nice bright white CF bulbs, you walk around the house like you've never seen it before. But the ultimate would surely be LED based lighting if they could just get their act together and start selling them widely at a reasonable price. That would be the killer lightbulb, a fraction of even the CF bulbs in energy use and bright white.

I disagree but you seem to have convinced yourself dispite what pretty much everyone here is telling you. Remember what The Verve said "And the drugs dont work they just make you worse..."
