I understand why she had the boy arrested. Mybe sitting the night in jail might change the boys attitude. I do wonder does the mother not realize that she supports the boy and she might have to pay has legal fees for the charge that she filled against him?

Sometimes simply is better than fancy. The developer stated after typing code line 10 billion!!!

Stupid mother, Stupid Policemen. It's sad that such a small familial incident goes public, me think the police should have simply taken 5,10, 15 minutes and talk to the mother and the kid; and that the mother let it go, and not give this kid other presents on christmas day, that will teach him enough.

I have to admit that the words trailer trash did cross my mind - but then I have got a nasty suspicious streak in me:-D

Arthur Dent - "That would explain it. All my life I've had this strange feeling that there's something big and sinister going on in the world." Slartibartfast - "No. That's perfectly normal paranoia. Everybody in the universe gets that." Deja View - the feeling that you've seen this post before.

Let him play with it for the day and then take it away and give it to the next door neighbor's child.

What a b****. She clearly doesn't have a clue what the word 'education' means. Probably the 'disruptiveness' is caused by herself and I really, really doubt it will get better with events like this.

Apparently lack of parenting skills runs in the family. Victim No. 1 is the boy's grandmother so she had to go along with this debacle!

That's not very subtle, is it? I reckon he'll find Christmas Day a bit dull without the additional games that he would've got. Being a 12 year old, he'll finish the bundled ones in a matter of days. Christmas Day is also a bit duff if everyone else is opening exciting presents and all you get is a humbug. Bah!

Kids are different, and there is no foolproof "educating kids for Dummies" method. Unless I'd have dealt with this kid, I wouldn't dare to judge the mother. At least over here, single mothers are tough tanks.

so you think it's normal that a mother calls the police when her kid opens his present to early? In that case give me life-long imprisonment...

so you think it's normal that a mother calls the police when her kid opens his present to early? In that case give me life-long imprisonment...

Where did I say that? No it's not "normal". Are you "normal"? Are your kids?

My son once knowingly stole some food from a grocery store while my wife and I were shopping. We had suspected that he had done this before, as we found candy and food stuffs in his room following other shopping trips; things we knew we did not purchase ... On this one particular trip, I saw him pocket the food, and walked over to a manager to report him. The manager, being how most grocery store managers are, didn't know what to do with it (because my son was a minor). I wanted the police called, so an officer could "talk with him", but the store manager refused, and just "let it go" ... that was unacceptable to me. SO ... I took my son to the police department that night, and had an officer speak with him about stealing; showed him the back of a police car, and the officer even "wrote down his name" (for effect). My son, now 22, has told me that scared the #%*() out of him, and he's ever once considered stealing anything again. Today, looking back on it, I would never have handled this way ... and frankly, I feel that my actions, while they may have worked, were overkill. Many parents do what they "think" is the "right" thing to do, at the time ... and while we all like to believe we'd act in a mature and logical manner in situations such as this, until you've been there and had it happen to you, it is difficult to say just how you might react. I will never condone what this mother did, since all children sneak and open presents and one point or another, but none of us knows her situation, and being young and most likely not having the best upbringing herself, she did what she "thought" was going to have an effect on her son; since he obviously ignored all her prior "warnings". I would much rather see/hear her do something like this, than her having beaten the child ... My story and two cents on this matter.
