I read this article on CNN and it talks about the boy having ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). My brother and cousin both have ADD (-H) and unless you have experience dealing with these kind of kids you best not pass judgement on the mother. It is extermely hard to raise children like this and sometimes drastic measures can be helpful. I'm not saying this was right but I will not also jump the gun and say it was wrong. Unless you are part of the situation don't make assumptions about the parenting skills of another person who you've never even met. The true tragedy here is that this story made the news. A semi-personal issue not went national simply because it was an XMAS present that was involved. How very sad.

I do know kids with ADHD, they're just fine and so are their mothers.

so you think it's normal that a mother calls the police when her kid opens his present to early?

Where did I say that? No it's not "normal". Are you "normal"? Are your kids?

Oh sorry for the misunderstanding, I thought your point was that the other is a bitch which clearly doesn't have a clue what the word 'education' means, and the disruptiveness probably being caused by herself. Or is that your definition of "not normal"?

What I meant was that no matter what illness the kid might have, calling the police for opening a christmas present too soon is way over the top. It will only have a contrary effect. (but ok, I shouldn't have used the word b****, but I stay in my opinion that she could do with some educational tips for her son)

Kids are different, and there is no foolproof "educating kids for Dummies" method. Unless I'd have dealt with this kid, I wouldn't dare to judge the mother. At least over here, single mothers are tough tanks.

I would NOT dare to judge the mother unless if the kid is bit like 666. May the kid be like Dennis*.. or even more problematic, calling the police is some what weird. X|. It shows even the mother is a just a kid. Not enough matured to handle kids. :sigh: *the menace

And if he repoduces at the same age the mother would become a grandmother at 30. Geez I'm 32 and I cannot imagine being a grandfather just yet - I still feel a few years away from fatherhood.

She must have kept it secret place. She's stupid. The kid should have called the police about her stupidity.

The boy being introduced to the police at an early age will soon find it natural. That will give him a chance to scale up in his relationship to the authorities :( That might explain why they have to reproduce fast... I wonder how the mother will cope with having taught her son, she just can't handle him, on her own? Maybe when she was 14, her parents took her to the police for going out with this little guy, who became the absent father? Way overkill. Considering the kid like a 'problem' to solve is no replacement for building a decent mother/son relationship. Still, being parent is not easy, so let's try not to judge hastily.

That's right. Knowing the kid was going to have a hard time refraining himself from looking at his gift, that sounds a bit sadistic. Even though the kid was expected to learn to refrain himself, he is a kid, and might need time to learn. She could have brought him gradually from one situation to the next to learn how he was expected to behave. Bashing him like this looks more like dog training than raising a kid. I wonder how she was reacting to her parents when she was a pregnant teenager.

Yup. If he spends a night in jail, when peeking at his Xmas present, he might wonder next time he should do somehting worthy of being treated that way.
