I've recently found an online game called Nation States[^] where you create and control a country. You can join a region, become a member of the UN (or not). The game time runs slowly, the UN even slower, so you only need to make one or two moves per day. As you are the ruler of your country you can decide the direction your country takes. You can turn it into a psycotic dictatorship or a stable democracy. You can found it on capitalist principles or attempt to make it a socialist utopia. Come and try it out. I've created a region called "The Code Project" for anyone here to be part of the same region. In order to become a member of "The Code Project" region you'll need the password. That password is: byalmightybob If you are unable (or don't want) to get the same name for your country as your CPian user name please introduce yourself once you arrive in the region. One quick piece of advice: To make the game more interesting select "Two issues per day" in your settings. That will generate two things per day that your populace are concerned about and you may wish to enact laws about (or even just ignore it) I hope to see you there!

It can take about 5 minutes to read through each issue, have a wee think and decide which way you want to go. A UN resolution happens once every 5 days and it takes about 5 minutes to vote for that. If you're region has a UN Delegate it can get more interesting as you can then send them telegrams or discuss in the region's forum asking them to vote one way or another (but since it takes 5 days from one resolution to the next it needn't take too much time). Obviously there is some politicking to do if a dispute breaks out on the region. Countries are free to break away and join other regions or create breakaway regions and so on. All in all I spend maybe 10 to 15 minutes a day on it set to the maximum number of issues. You can also put your country into vacation mode if you are going to be away for a while. You can choose the frequency of the issues so you don't get too many of them.

The Kingdom of Woofleonia: The Kingdom of Woofleonia is a tiny, safe nation, renowned for its absence of drug laws. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 5 million are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources." The large, corrupt government devotes most of its attentions to Law & Order, with areas such as Religion & Spirituality and Social Welfare receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 25%, but much higher for the wealthy. A substantial private sector is led by the Uranium Mining industry, followed by Furniture Restoration and Soda Sales. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Woofleonia's national animal is the woofle and its currency is the wibble. Civil Rights: Some Economy: Good Political Freedoms: Unheard Of

Its hard-working, cynical population of 5 million are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night. There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, corrupt, pro-business individuals juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Defence, and Social Welfare. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Book Publishing, Information Technology, and Arms Manufacturing industries. The Kingdom of Immutability is a tiny, economically powerful nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5 million are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like. There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, corrupt individuals juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Religion & Spirituality, and Law & Order. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Retail, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Gambling industries. Crime is a serious problem, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Immutability's national animal is the sloth, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the dukat.

The guy writes an entire game, and apparently one good enough to get the attention of the elite geek crowd of CP, all to promote his latest novel. Absolutely freakin brilliant! :-D

"The Armed Republic of Glenmoria is a tiny, economically powerful nation, notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Crime is a serious problem, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Glenmoria's national animal is the velociraptor, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the rob." I've recently found an online game called Nation States[^] where you create and control a country.

No. You are your country's ruler (in what ever form that takes). Countries can join a region. They can also join the United Nations.

The Free Land of Patagonialand is a tiny, socially progressive nation, notable for its absence of drug laws. Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 5 million hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion. The large, corrupt, liberal government is mainly concerned with Religion & Spirituality, although Healthcare and Social Welfare are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 24%. A substantial private sector is led by the Cheese Exports industry, followed by Uranium Mining and Automobile Manufacturing. Crime is a problem, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Patagonialand's national animal is the Woman and its currency is the pu94.
