        Good call. I've dabbled with DarkBasic and FPS Creator in the past. They are both excellent products. Certainly for learning the basics (no pun intended), DarkBasic is an excellent choice.

        the last thing I want to see is some pasty-faced geek with skin so pale that it's almost translucent trying to bump parts with a partner - John Simmons / outlaw programmer

                      Just out of PURE curiosity (I'm going to be shot for this) how does your compiler handle 3D graphics (email me the answer).

                          use a pen and paper; it's 2d enough. seriously, do you have a game idea ? what this game will be ? how it's going to be played ? the rules ? the elements ? how many players ? how the computer will play if you have to play against it ? even if it's a highly graphical game, try drawing a storyboard of the game, that depicts how the game will be played. other than that, GDI might be enough.
