Remember - the Gold one is about $95 a year. I think the Green one is in the $40's.

Man you really don't put much of your brain to use... If *you* can get a gold card, what makes you think that makes you special. It just means they've found another sucker who's going to run up his card the every month and then be "shocked" when they find out they have to pay the whole thing off at the end of the month. If you're sole purpose was to get a Amex card to "look good in a restaurant", "look like a man", and "impress women", you're nothing but an idiot. I'm gonna laugh my ass off when you post your first woe-is-me message about your Amex bill.

See, that's what confuses me. If they don't have a reset limit, how do I know when are they going to decline me? Anyway, I'll ask them when I activate the card.

No no, that's just one reason. A small one. :-D

I'll tell you how it happened to me one time. I was taking a client out to dinner and when I went to pay for the meal I was informed that my request was denied. This had never happened before but then I had never tried to run up so many charges in one month before. Embarrassing but not devastating as I had another card to pay with. :-O It so happened that I was on an extended business trip and needed to pay for my hotel charges the following day. I called AmEx and they told me that the charge was denied because I had recently made many charges which were not my usual spending profile and they suspected fraud and shut down the card. :omg: I assured them that I was just using it for a business trip and needed to pay my hotel bill. After discussing my situation for a while they allowed me to make one more charge until the monthly charges were paid off and then that would become my new spending profile for the future.

When AMEX refuses to pay, you will make quite an impression. That is the "AMEX gold-digger protection plan". Thomas

Then you need to be de-confused as soon as possible. There are two kinds of credit cards from AmEx. The more traditional is the pay it off each month type. There is a credit limit, but it is typically much higher than a normal credit card. YMMV. If you have a Gold American Express, this is the plan you have. How does AmEx make $$ (as well as the other credit card companies)? First, they take 3-5% of each transaction from the merchant. Why would they do this? Because studies have shown again and again that people's spending habits go up way past 4% if you take a credit card. This part of the $$ keeps the lights on. Interest, fees, etc. is all gravy. There is something called Blue or something like it. Typical credit card. Can carry a balance month to month, etc. Now, Link, *listen* to the comments about gold diggers. There are multiple people I know who have been REEMED by people like this. Before the few women jump all over me - I've seen guys do it to - so it goes both ways. I guess the same warning goes for all of the other single geek guys out there.. :)

Yeah?? So what? The card comes out at the end of dinner, not the beginning. With the thinking you're goin' with, a Platinum card won't make up for the image you gave her during dinner.

Actually the gold diggers are "working girls". :~ They just take their payments in installments. :wtf: It is always less expensive to pay up front for something than to get involved with installment plans. There are no hidden costs that way.

MBNA slowly upgraded my lowly college credit card to Platinum status. Unfortunately, as I use it only for online purchases I cannot use it to impress women. However, the credit limit is enough to by a beemer. (My balance however, remains at zero but they keep taunting me with 0% access checks)
