The fact you describe it as "put up with it" means you don't completely understand it. I say this realizing that it is not in everyone's future to have kids and am cool with that.

It's one of those things that I know I could not do. I figure it's better that I know before I have kids. Even nieces and nephews, I don't have the urge to hold them. Absolutely no motherly instinct here. But those who can do it, and do it well (where my parents could not) I give nothing but kudos to. It's one of the hardest jobs in the world; those who truly love it deserve all the rewards of it.

Wanna know something really weird... (maybe you don't I'm weird enough):-D I felt the very same way about kids but agreed to have them because my wife wanted them. Their are some things (well don't take that wrong, I mean it respectfully) that I will not deprive a woman of and children are at the top of my list. So I agreed. My son was born and it was a struggle. I had a very hard time and it was a challenge. Then my daughter was born and it plunged us into a world of utter chaos and fear. I now had to fight for another life all day and all night long. I spent 3 years of my life dying to myself that another might live. At the end of it I was amazed to find out that my kids were everything to me. This next comment has nothing to do with having kids. Sometimes in life you have to go against every instinct you have and trust someone close to you and let them make a call that will have a deep and lasting impact on you. When you do that and the call is made... Whatever that call was, if you chose the right person then you will be different and better for giving someone that much trust. Even if you get hurt buy it. It's a good thing to do. I know that sounds all confucious and sappy but I believe it's true from my experience and experiences I've heard from others. When I had my first kid I was definitely not into it. Now it's the only reason I work so hard is to be able to enjoy my time off with them.:rose:

Tonight I got to go to Costco with my wife and kids. While on the way there my brother in law who is currently at Lacklund (SP?) Air Force Base for skill training called me and said he's thinking of being Para-Rescue or a SEAL but might even opt for OCS and becoming a pilot. Had a great chat with him. At costco my 2 year old refused to ride in the air-craft carrier sized shopping cart my 5 and 6 year old require cranes to hoist them in so they are out... I get to push the cart around and shepherd my 2 year old with it (nearly pasting her on several drive by's). My son pulled out a loose tooth on the way home. My 5 year old said, "Cool! Blood!" and my 2 year old said, "Yuck! Gross!" (it sounded more like "yuk grows"). I did a pile of dishes bigger than my car, my son read his practice reading book to me 5 times. My 5 year old climbed in to bed expecting that I read to her and my 2 year old refused to lay down until she found a 1" plastic frog that my wife and I both know she will put in her mouth as soon as we aren't looking. So we had to bribe/distract it away from her. I'm only now just sitting back down and all I can say is... Parenting is cool!:-D:omg::rolleyes::doh::sigh:;P

That's cool. I just played Star-Wars in the dark with my 5 year-old son and a couple of lightsabers[^]. (The sabers are the cool ones that light up and make realistic sound effects). Then my wife came home and told us to turn the TV down, since we weren't even watching it and Return of the Jedi was way too loud. And now he's in bed, so I'm off out to the garage to lift some weights for half an hour, then I'm going to wake my wife up. ;)

Well,I do not want to even try to convince you, but give it another thinking. From what I've read here you seem to be quite a good balanced person (do not take it literally, this is bad translated french), think about all you can teach your kids ! Plus your husband seems to like playing video games, good father

I can understand both sides. I miss having my step-kids around, that was actually the hardest part of the divorce, never seeing my step kids again. The choice is up to them, I haven't hidden myself. Melissa actually did visit me, but she just wanted money, and I didn't give her any, so she isn't likely to return. Life is what we make of it. One person sees only chaos, another appreciates the good things in life because the chaos makes them stand out stronger. But that might be my inner Santa speaking...

Hellelujah !! But the best part is AFTER bed time. Sneakin in and watchin em sleep is the ultimate reward for bein' a parent. Even after your teenage daughter has spent 3 UNINTERRUPTED HOURS yelling at you and complaining about how unFAIR all your rules are. After grocery shoppin and laundry and dishes up the wazoo... Well, you sneak in and watch her sleep. She's calm. She's quiet. You notice her closed eyes in REM clearing away all that built up teenage stress. You're reminded of that little girl who was SO much easier on ya. And you think - yep - I'm glad you're here. Kids are hell. But when you're done with figuring out who YOU are... They're a wonderful adventure that help you understand yourself (and everyone) at a MUCH deeper level. Kids are hell. But they're also heaven.
