A friend just sent me a location of people swimming in Australia close to the Sydney Olympic games location. (Nothing crazy.) I'm impressed that Google can zoom in that close. I also see that most of them have shirts and shorts while swimming so I have to assume that it's because of the heat.

No, it's for UV protection. We have serious sunlight down here and skin cancer is a killer. Google recently flew some planes over Sydney to get higher res shots. Those aren't satelitte pics you're looking at ;)

Sydney Harbour, Texas?[^] ;P You can get 1/2 meter commercial sat satellite, but you can get 10 cm or better fixed-wing. In fact there are mapping UAV's operating almost 24hours all over the USA and various other countries. The land for fuel and maintenance, and then move-on. Expect lots more images from all over the world in both Google and other sources. :) In fact with so many images coming in, you're bound to see more of the Google voyeurs looking for those without the shorts and shirts... as if they didn't see enough pixelated nudity in the sims, they are looking for them in Google also.
