Nice. I got the Inspiron 9400 a few months ago, which is the 17" version of the same. (Although it's got a 7900 GS card in it, instead of the 7400) I love it. :)

We are certainly uncertain at least I'm pretty sure I am...

 Nice idea but isn't it considerably higher?  I mean for a 3GHz single core machine you're looking at ~750Hz / CPian: ((3*1000*1000*1000) / 4,000,000) And we all know what kind of spec machines he's got.  So each CPian could be allocated almost 1kHz on each of his processors.

I've got the XPS M1710. Spent $4,000 on it. I hardly ever use it because the screen only looks good if I use 1920 X 1200 resolution. Everything is so stinking small .... and the 14 lb battery lasts about 1.5 hours. Guess it's like the saying ... "you shouldn't go grocery shopping when you're hungry." Games play nice though. I though about selling it, but I would lose at least $1000 on the deal. (I bought it November '06, so I just can't stomach the loss.)

The loss will just get worse with time though. Seriously though, the 17"+ form factor is primarily targeted at people who want something a bit lighter than a full sized ATX desktop to take to LAN parties, not someone who primarily wants mobility.

I just bought a new Dell laptop: a whopping 15.4" AMD 64 X2 powered Inspiron 1501 with 1GB of RAM and 160GB hard disks that cost a grand total of £190 after discounts. In fact I bought five of them at that price. Yeah sure they may not run Visual Studio (even putting the DVD in would probably melt the machines), but they will do just fine for browsing and word processing, and I don't have to worry about warranties... if they break, they go in the bin. The OEM Vista licenses alone are worth almost half of that cost, let alone the five free printers and other assorted crap bits. If I were to strip them down then there is about £500 of parts with each one. No wonder Dell is making losses -- how can you make a profit when you are selling perfectly decent light spec laptops for the same price as a weekly supermarket trip? :omg:

It feels like theft, but I expect I'll be cursing the invention of electricity by the time I have removed all of the pre-installed Dell crap from the first one.
