But it's all perfectly true! It's part of the new technology that "alters the molecular structure of the central processing unit", to allow for faster processing, safer browsing, and pizza delivery. Of course, once your CPU's molecular structure has been altered to that of a pizza, you have to get a new one, but, Guys, it's Pizza we're talking here!

For any other sceptical oldies out there, cast your minds back 20-25 years and this is very similar to something you could do to a Commodore PET. A certain value placed in a certain memory location caused a short - I think it was something to do with an I/O port. The power involved was very small so no blown fuses just a gradual build up of heat. If left long enough you could eventually start a fire! :-D Rich

This is kind of sad to see more and more hoaxes like this in American news. Has America totally gone mad on their holy crusade against terrorism? Sadly enough, some people actually do believe this...

We used to do that with c64's back in high school. 'course, since their processors weren't as advanced, the explosions were mere firecrackers. :->

I don't know what's worse, blaming all of America for a joke news item in a whimsical tabloid, or the fact that some of the CPers here can't tell it's a joke... not a "hoax." This is the same newspaper that gives us updates on the status of spider-boy (the half man, half spider) who was kidnapped by Venutians in order to repopulate the dying planet of Venus.

Exactly, these tabloids are not considered news by a significant portion of the U.S. public. (I do hope that's a majority.:~ ) Now, call me when such an article appears in the New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, etc. Gotta go, I've got to get pack in touch with my friends in Roswell, New Mexico. :-D:laugh::laugh:

Good for a giggle I thought, then my other brain cell fired up, if the fine body of men and women that make up this excelent forum, were to circulate this "article" it would be a really good time to pick up some state of the art computer stuff for practically nothing. There really are people out there who will believe it. so could we have an agreement, that if you do get more than one all singing all dancing computer with all the latest knob and whistles, you pass on the extras to another member!

This is no joke people. I worked with a crack team of scientists on altering the molecular structure of the common PC (we were trying to have a pair of breasts grow on the keyboard). However we made a fundamental mistake in which the breast molecule was mirror imaged thus making a bomb molecule (with chemical element BS).

didn't know the source of that article. to my understanding, a newspaper should bring news. just giving my opinion on american news in general, which is far more sensational then in europe, I think. there is also a political agenda behind such terrorist threats news (I don't mean just that article ;-) ), but who got re-elected again?

Great article. Some questions and comments... How did they know they got within 2 digits of "cracking an 87-digit Russian security code"? How many people just plain don't like my looks? This is exactly why I wear goggles when I'm programming. Good thing you didn't post this in the soapbox. If "fanatical religious-fringe groups" got their hands on this... Oh yeah, forgot one: What the hell is a smithereen?
