But what if he is not allowing me to even touch that application. I didn't see that error from my eyes. My boss told me that and I can't do the testing because there are some entries in the database having auto increment field so he may come to know that I did something with the application.

You still have the code right? You can always point the app to a test database somewhere else. It sounds like your boss is being a total ass. It sounds like it may be time to find something better out there.

Just tell me, have u got testers let alone a proper QA department? If your organization hasnt got one, then you people are in serious trouble.

Hi,:( I made an application that is online registration. I checked it at local as well as after upload that, Even my Boss and HR Manager checked that application. The candidate started to make registration through that and almost above 60 candidates did that successfully, and suddenlly there was an error occured of loading library of common function made by me. I did not make any change after uploadation. My boss is telling that it is my mistake, Either I did not make such good application or I made changes after starting of registration.:(( :(( :(( I know that how much hard effort I put to make this application good, I didn't look at the watch. I worked for this in the day as well as late night. Now can I know your views for that, Whose fault it is?

I am sorry blame is not good to place. But it is in the hands of the developer of the product. If your library fails then it is the developers issue to fix it. The issue could come from lots of other issues, but it is still your job to figure out what happens. If you are using sharepoint 2007 I have seen this issue a lot. As a developer I am ??? in the air because i can nor the team figure out why this issue happens. We think our issue has something to do a file locked and we are not handling the execptio, which could cause a execption in the dll to load.

Sounds like your boss and HR were your QA department for this project. In the end, it doesn't matter you've buggy software online. You need to figure out how to fix the bug and your boss needs to address any issues it's caused and consider if there are improvements to be made in the process. Can you check file timestamps to prove you didn't touch the code? Compare vs. source control?

Thats why we are professionals :) Seriously. Sometimes bugs don't show up until a very special set of circumstances. The approach in the past has been to rely on a Testing department to find these bugs for you. I've never agreed with that approach as it seems just way to reactive to me. If I were you, I'd be trying to recreate the bug in a test environment AND I'd be adding unit and integration test to my code base.

It's not unusal for smaller code shops to not have a real QA department. Not ideal, obviously, but with proper processes it's certainly a workable situation. Consider all the one-man shops out there earning a successful living all by their lonesome.

So te first 60 were successful then it statrted to fail? How many registrations were carried out in testing? It could be simply a fault in the server not related to the software itself. If you live in a culture where blame counts then consider looking elsewhere. Elaine :rose:

I know that small shops can't have a QA department but at least they can have a tester to test the basic functionality. And as far as the one-man shops are concerned, there is no one above them to put the blame on them after something like this.

The testers. I hate finger pointing. It should be "How can we get this problem sorted out best?" not "Who's fault is it?"

Dad always thought laughter was the best medicine, which I guess is why several of us died of tuberculosis. I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

No, no, no, that's the Japanese way of doing things. Since this is the United States, that simply won't work here! Someone MUST be blamed, usually me. :-D

Dammit , youve hit on my latest software project . A B.A.M system . (blame allocation system ) . It consists of a list of projects and a list of names you link one to the other and select "create blame". Its a sure fire winner.

Bad code does not kill apps , assumptions do.

Well I checked the Full application more than 160 times with a different database but I am not getting any error. But he said that the institute got the error from my application.

In that case you can ask for the data what they have entered so that you can replicate the error.
