I'm not suggesting a charge for all source code, just some "premium content".

Nothing John said suggests that, but evidently they are operating within the boundaries of the law

Remarkable. You actually agree that you are an idiot. Johns point was that all of your suggestions for how to respond are neither ethical nor legal, and that you are an idiot for even suggesting them. And John is right.

I think that should be put up there with the text that reads "Do not post programming questions in the lounge". Beyond that, our friend probably just graduated from his "Learn Just Enough English to Get By in a Customer Service Role" class. He probably didn't understand half of what I said. :)

What does VBism has to do with Idiotism... i think you are a VCist.... and i m as much idiot as you are ... since our discussion here is worthless when it comes to helping coders who really suffer...one who has not suffered doesnt understand the pain and yeah...if u still want to say..."he would go a long way to explain his limited intellect".... u r welcome... ur words dont matter neways coming to your points....definitely i agree that its unethical and illegal (in your country and in mine) to create the so called "time-bombs" in the source code ...better way is to take an advance and have a timeline for regular payments ... i dont work for RAC anymore but used to agree on similar timelines before starting any project... but sites like rentacoder cross any country's boundaries and unethically exploit people outside these boundaries .. which is unfortunately not bound by national laws ... i hope you agree on this ... there should be some kind of international laws to protect interest of both the parties before any such trading is allowed ofcourse my suggestions are kind of unethical-war tactics that should never be used those are illegal inside a country does not mean that it cannot happen outside... its the responsibility of sites like RAC to act as a gatekeeper ... but they will not be able to deliver ethically unless they treat developers ethically...that is what the title of this post discusses

That, my dear sir, should be required reading in colleges and universities.

Why is common sense not common? Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level where they are an expert. Sometimes it takes a lot of work to be lazy

Evidently you are the (approximately) 4 millionth CP member to learn this sad fact. Next time, look before you leap; ask your friends at CP for advice before you even consider looking elsewhere. Google gets most of their data from CPians. We are knowledge gods, and will never lead you astray. Send all your money to Chris Maunder, c/o Bob, at CodeProject and you will never have to worry about anything again. We promise.
