How fast do you have to be going to cause a cow to fly into the air?

This actually happened to someone I used to work with. He hit a cow which smashed up the front of the car and subsequently went over the car and smashed up the back of the car! He was fine but the car wasn't very well afterwards!

A man was killed after his car collided with a large cow, sending the creature flying into the air before it landed on the car rooftop and crushed the driver.
hmmmm.... My response, living in cattle country, would have to be.... how fast was he Moooving? I have not hit a cow, but I have seen others. Generally the car suffers more than the cow. So to hit a cow with enough force to lift its bulk (and significant bulk saying "large cow" or maybe their idea of large is not ours) into the air. In most cases the car is simply swept off its feet and sliding up the hood, or just tipped over. Something the size of a Mack Truck will kill a cow, but an SUV or car will just injure the animal, wreck the vehicle. Of course there is always the Oryx too. We've had one turn around and attack the car that hit it. That poor guy was well and truly frightened.

I want to see the insurance re-enactment trying to figure this out. :) I think this is where physics finally gets fun. ;)
