Do you will replace Flash with Silverlight? I like of criticize MS, but Silverlight really rocks. In years using Flash, I did can just create some banner ads... I found ActionScript an trash and the "Flash IDE" another trash. Now, I will throw both in the trash can and I will be happy! :)

Pool, eh? How 'bout Silverlight-based Snooker? Now that sounds like a good time... As for dev... I've never done anything in Flash, but i did watch someone putting together a demo once... it looked dull. So, for that matter, does Silverlight's designer. I've been trying to motivate myself to download it for something like three weeks now, but just can't seem to find the energy. :sigh:

I've used neither, and don't foresee the situation changing in the near future either.

ActionScript is fine IMHO, but the "IDE" (by name only) is horrid. Although i think Silverlight is a little overrated and Flash continue to will exist alongside it for a number of years. You know, i'm glad you made those banner ads in Silverlight...because for as long as i boycot Silverlight, i won't see them:-> Roswell

At this point silverlight isn't quite as advanced as flash, however it does have the elements to grow fast and take a major role in the industry. I think it's a bit early to say that it will replace flash, but it sure looks promising. I've created some small web interfaces using silverlight and I'm impressed by it's animation capabilities. One other thing that really makes it interesting for me is XAML. I'm not someone that uses drawing tools alot. I like to code, so XAML is a very good option for me.

I hope so. Flash does some cool stuff, but I hate working with ActionScript.

You might want to wait until people other than developers can actually view Silverlight content. Flash has very good distribution while Silverlight is far too new. I'd also wait a few versions. Silverlight as it is now regularly crashes Firefox on Mac OS X.

And you can to wonder that some of mine customers asked to me banner ads in Java Applets! ;P

Yes I can't write or have any urge to write flash. I can use WPF/c# so it a natural choice for using SilverLight 1.1

The good here is that Microsoft will take care for me. Probably MS will launch built-in Silverlight in the Vista SP1, or IE7.

Do you have any evidence for this? IE7 has been out awhile now and any Silverlight inclusion in future downloads is going to miss out on the decent numbers of people who have already upgraded to IE7. I don't see it happening. As for Vista Service Pack 1 I thought that was more a security and stability service pack and not a new-features update. There is considerable risk deploying something like Silverlight in an operating system service pack. Maybe the next client version of the .NET Framework rather?

Really, for IE7 is hard, and the "update cycle" for the next IE8 must take 1 year or 2...

It's my guess. The Vista SP1 must comes with built-it .Net 3.5 (what I think that the final version comes with Silverlight 1.1). And MS have the precedent that in Windows 95 days, the OS cames with Flash and Shockwave plug-ins built-in, it's fair to think in Silverlight in the next Vista version.

Yep! Flash will become the furture Firefox unless they get the move on and take MS seriously. Ms is serious and I doubt Flash will be much of an issue by Silverlight 3.0. That said though, one of the most important roles for Silverlight coming up is allowing .NET programmers in the client side cross-platform. While there is a bit of a learning curve for developers who do not know .NET 3.5/WPF, you can use all your currently knowledge of .NET and bring that to the client side. Lot better than learning a new system with Flash/Flex/??.. The issue at hand is to bridge the gap between client side web/ asp.net / desktop development and WPF/Silverlight is an answer. Here on CP, I see a lot of developers bashing Silverlight and at times WPF as just another eye candy toy that no "real" developers will probably ever use. Those statements show they have not even started to learn the technology nor see the direction it is all moving. Unified development for client/web/desktop all using .NET technologies and your favorite development languages and libraries. Hmmm.. Future is a looking bright! Guess it is time for bed now :)
