Have you seen a donut recently? If you tried to "fold" it that many times you'd end up with a handful of crumbs, a group of pissed off little kids, and then a woman with a knife, a headache (from the kids), and an extremely bad disposition towards you. Yeah, sounds like a true win/win situation!!! :)

I can't believe this. Take 2 sheets of paper and cut them in the shape of a donut. Bend them and cut the C shape top-down as shown in my drawing. Count the pieces. You'll find eight of them. Assuming the rightmost piece (the piece to the right of the dotted line) is NOT cut through the middle - because as I mention it ISN'T - the 2 pieces of paper are actually one. So you have 7 pieces. Or better yet forget it. I'm getting tired of this.

I was just trying to understand because if you can get 7 pieces in two cuts that makes it very interesting. and here is the picture of your solution http://trickofmind.com/images/puzzles/7pieces.png[^] Do you see anything glaring ?

I am bigger than the children, so I use the knives to threaten them into submission and eat both doughnuts.:)

your count is treating the bend as a cut. peices 3 and 5 are connected at the bend, as are 4 and 6.

yes thats what i was trying to clearify ! and AFAIK, i have drawn the solution as per "Mircea Grelus"

                  Mircea Grelus wrote:

So, cut horizontally from left to right up until the dotted line. Without moving the donut bend the left side over the right one to form a C shape (flipped). Now make a second cut on the dotted line. With this final cut, the left C shape is split into 6 pieces (3 for the top C shape and 3 for the button one) and there is the right piece, making it 7 pieces.

This is an invalid solution. You specified two cuts in the original post. The only way to separate the 3/5 and 6/4 pieces is with a starting cut to break the donut into two pieces. That would be the real first cut. Where you marked "cut 1" would actually be the second cut, and where you marked "cut 2" would actually be the third cut.
