160 Million to leave your job For real, I only need 10% of that. Only for one year, then I can retire.
I didn't get any requirements for the signature

The general rule is that you get paid more by being worth more.

Close, but no cigar. You get paid more by showing someone why it's in their best interest to do so. Sounds like the same thing, but it's actually quite different.

You get paid more by showing convincing someone why that it's in their best interest to do so. at that level, anyway.

I stand corrected edited. :) Of course, that's the only level that matters. If you can't convince them to pay more, they won't. Companies are always looking for people who will accept less than what they're worth. As exhibit A, I offer the outsourcing of the IT industry.

I don't smoke... So, a monetary benefit (worth) to the company isn't always in it's best interest?

It seems that rich people lead rich lives. Perhaps the effect is the cause? If you spend a few million monthly perhaps your income will balance?

"Merril Lynch on Tuesday boosted Stan O’Neal’s departure package by almost $90m -- taking it to $160m -- by letting him retire as chairman and chief executive rather than sacking him." I'd happily be sacked for ninety million. Maybe even less. BDF

How about a bubble gum cigar, then? :) Typcially, benefit / worth alone isn't enough to improve your compensation. Companies are always looking for value, without a doubt. However, just because you're worth more doesn't mean you'll actually get it. On the contrary, they're motivated to do just the opposite. If they can get your worth for 10 cents on the dollar, then that's even more of a benefit to them. Consequently, that's their mental starting point. Without a doubt, if you're worth more that gives you more bargaining power. However, in order to translate that into a personal benefit, you must still master the art of bargaining. Worth alone is only half the battle.

I can agree with that. My most effective bargaining tool has been to wave a job offer under my boss's nose. It's not so much an "art" as it is a club. It can't be a bluff however, you have to be prepared for them to call it.

Everytime I see these fantasy sums, I start to wonder if these people really are worth all that much money.

That's an extremely solid tactic, provided people heed your advice about not bluffing.

Right, so what you're saying here, if I'm understanding you ... get pictures of someone in power that has lots and lots of money, and then explain why it's in their best interest to pay you more. Got it.

Of course they are, it's the finance industry, the very heart of capitalism; they are getting paid exactly what hard core capitalists think they're worth. You can't get a much more accurate assesment than that.

Much of that worth comes from their skills at underpaying and overworking workers. Good thing to remember when you're spending late nights updating your own (technical) skills.

I'd say that if you can convince somebody to pay you that much you are 100% worth it.
My Blog A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. I suppose, but the trick is trying to get paid what you're actually worth, I haven't figured that one out yet?

I guess I'm saying that these hardcore capitalists have lost their senses. There is nothing wrong with being wealthy, but at some point, it's just pointless. If you have 1 billion, or 10 billion - would it matter?
