Only if you use the submission wizard... You can also write the article and send it to chris, then it starts in the edited sections... - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!"

Several do have explanations, but they're embedded as comments. As an editor, I'd simply move the comments to the text. I don't think the "articles" are in that bad a shape. Trust me, I've had to edit MUCH worse. Cheers, Tom Archer Author - Inside C#, Visual C++.NET Bible

I think the articles answers some common newbie questions. Better formatting, some more article text and the addition of the 'beginner' keyword would make them really nice. Downrating them right now would just prevent the author from improving them. /moliate

Hi pals, First i would like to tell you that, I am NOT that stupid enough to keep posting small articles. Secondly, i didnt know that the posts would turn up in the first page itself which is why the commotion is all about. And i wonder why the guys are going up for everything ??? I know pretty well that if there is any bad post, chris and tom are going to get it removed. I've been an Elite member of codeguru.com for a long time and its not the first discussion board where i've been. I just wanted to join codeproject as a regular member too and see the response that i get from the guys here. I'm sorry to say that my first experience was not that good as i expected. Anything done here is NOT for any practical gains, its just that the editor wants to contribute something to the other people. And i think that the INTENTION rather than the CONTENT would have to be dealt with and not just start off a debate rather than doing something constructive. Thanks folks for this debate. I wanted to start off with beginner level entries bcoz i wanted to get a FEEL of this site before i start off with something serious. But, now, thanks to this debate, i've got my own reservations. All luck and have a great time pal. p.s. The next time, do something creative rather than discussion about tom, dick or harry. If u are still upset, better write some tutorials or articles yourself ( SOME GOOD ONES WHICH U WANT ) and post them for the knowledge of the public. :-O With warm regards, V.Girish

Sorry you didn't feel welcomed. Perhaps it would be better to post 1 or 2 articles at first to get your feet wet. Also, there is a standard format for articles. Yours don't completely comply. Some suggestions: Don't put the entire article in "pre" tags, just code segments. Don't exceed 600 pixels width or else the text will flow off the right edge. Clearly identify articles as Beginner. Use the article template that's available on the site. Don't give up. Ed BTW: The Nazi symbolism in the photo at the bottom of your home page may not be appreciated by some.

I don't see the value in all the debate here. I read through all 11 articles, and each one gives an example of how to do something I either have not tried yet, or tried a couple times and was completely baffled by. Now I've got 11 examples to draw on for hints about what I may be doing wrong. Thanks! Once these articles have gone through the edit cycle I'm sure they're going to be useful additions to the library of beginners articles. I spend a lot of time there, and appreciate every article. It's all about first impressions. People are going to see your articles (probably after seeing all other articles), and the first thing they're going to notice is the format. It's WAY different from what's been posted here previously. Sure, the articles will eventually be edited, but until that happens (MONTHS, not days), people are gonna see the sub-standard articles. People want something easy to read and understand, along with sample sourse that is well commented that can be used to shore up what's missing in the narrative portions of your article. Technical merit is lost due to lack of sufficient narrative discussing what you're doing, why you needed to come up with the code, and any gotchas involved in using your technique. Many of us are quite busy and don't have the time to decipher the articles you've posted. I suggest that you go back and, one by one, revise the articles to make them more readable NOW instead of waiting for the CP gods to do it for you. I mentioned something to this affect as feedback. Could not be bothered to do it for them all. There were a few plain bad ones, but others would certainly be useful for a begginer e.g. the FTP one was not bad, but the formatting needed to be taken care of. I pointed out it was worth having a look at the CP standard layout.

Me too. Maybe a purge of badly articles rated by say more than 10 users that are over say a few months, but giving the author the chance to improve it first. But this is not going to be possible unless people give feeback, good and bad. Simply voting it as bad will be no good. I do wonder if some people post a load of low quality articles on CP to get there name as an article author for their CV's. For they guys that post loads of good articles I'm not complaining, and can only say keep up they good work as I've learnt so much from them. But for the newbie I would hate for them to have to wade though bad articles to find the good. By that I mean I don't go to the many others sites unless I cannot find a particular topic here.

Don't be put off by the comments above. As some of the others pointed out the formatting is quite important to the people here as it one of the nice features for the site - one colour for code, and another for narrative. As begginer articles the content was there, and I decided not to rate them as I guessed you were new to the site and had not had chance to get used to the layouts. You've got everyones attention, and nows the time to ammend the formatting if you can by only wrapping the code in the

blocks, and code comments as narrative. The step by step hows to's were great. Show everyone what you can do.
