Humbling experiences

That's always a good thing Josh. Every time I read your articles or Marc Clifton's or Sacha Barber's or Karl Shifflet's I'm always left dumbfounded. I get inspired by you guys and you guys get inspired by others, that's the circle of article writing life :cool:

I know what you mean, but I'm focusing more on the quality of the writing. The actual use of language to convey ideas, not the ideas themselves.

Authors definitely get inspired by writing style too. They'll read a better author and be pushed to write better themselves.

I found out early in life my upper body strength was lousy, so I gave up on throwing stars as a child. But after discovering kick-ball, I found out my lower-body strength was exceptional. So I am far better at kicking stars around than I am at throwing them, at least 500% better!! ;P

Folks, we live in an amazing world. No matter how good you are at something, there are others out there who are monumentally better at it than you. This is a very good thing!! Yesterday I had two of these humbling experiences. Earlier in the day I played a piece on the piano that I've been practicing for who-knows-how-many months. I'm happy with how I play it, but later on, almost by chance, I heard a real concert pianist play that same piece. His rendition was outstanding and made mine sound like the ramblings of a mad fool. :) The other day I wrote, what I consider to be, my best article ever. I'm very happy with the quality of the prose, which is something I've struggled to improve on every article. I felt that my writing style was "getting there." Then, last night, I started reading "Alexander Hamilton[^]" and was blown away by the author's eloquence and style. Suddenly my writing looked like the ramblings of a mad fool! :laugh: But, as I said before, this is a good thing. The world would be very boring if nobody was exceptionally good at something.

It's not like it's still accelerating. To the star it's just standing still. It's only 5 times faster then the sun is rotating around the center of the galaxy, so given a little time and practice you might get there still.

Tree Bear[^] Tree bears are a special danger of the West USA. Lying in wait branches in trees the bears await an unknowing victim.
