Humbling experiences

Folks, we live in an amazing world. No matter how good you are at something, there are others out there who are monumentally better at it than you. This is a very good thing!! Yesterday I had two of these humbling experiences. Earlier in the day I played a piece on the piano that I've been practicing for who-knows-how-many months. I'm happy with how I play it, but later on, almost by chance, I heard a real concert pianist play that same piece. His rendition was outstanding and made mine sound like the ramblings of a mad fool. :) The other day I wrote, what I consider to be, my best article ever. I'm very happy with the quality of the prose, which is something I've struggled to improve on every article. I felt that my writing style was "getting there." Then, last night, I started reading "Alexander Hamilton[^]" and was blown away by the author's eloquence and style. Suddenly my writing looked like the ramblings of a mad fool! :laugh: But, as I said before, this is a good thing. The world would be very boring if nobody was exceptionally good at something.

Many a tree bears the mark of my shurikens from childhood. Poor trees :(

LOL AFAIK I got it right though. It is "bears the mark", not "bares the mark." Right?

Indeed. And then you get baby stars doing 2.6 million kph[^]. Flung from the center of another galaxy by a black hole and through our galaxy. How incredible is that. I suck at throwing stars in comparison.

It's not like it's still accelerating. To the star it's just standing still. It's only 5 times faster then the sun is rotating around the center of the galaxy, so given a little time and practice you might get there still.

Tree Bear[^] Tree bears are a special danger of the West USA. Lying in wait branches in trees the bears await an unknowing victim. As a person walks under their tree, they step off the limb and fall upon the person. Alas, the person never knows what hits them, one minute they are walking fine, next there is a slight growl, a creak and they are pushed six feet into the earth by the weight of these horrible tree-bears. The bear doesn't actually do anything else to you, they are in fact gardening the tree by pushing you into the ground you supply much needed fertilizer for their pet trees. Thus the term "planted 6 feet under" actually comes from the actions of the notorious western Tree-bear, though it has become synonymous with being buried in general.

correct. Baring the mark would be the tree removing its bark to flash you the scars on its naked skin... :wtf: Luckily, I have yet to see a tree do this, if I do, I promise to run like heck out of the forest....

What Paul said was exactly what I meant. I look at what I wrote and I say, "hey, that's not bad" then I read what you guys wrote and I say "now that is good." So I get inspired to write better and convey my ideas in a better way.
