Asp.net rich text edit control?

Thanks, Douglas. You know, I looked at that one but was scared off by the series of comments that gave an impression of a somewhat buggy venture. Have you used it with good results?

Hey, guys. FCKEdit looks like the most mature bolt on for this need, but since they're Penguins, I either have to agree to one of the open source licenses (it's a commercial app, I can't do that) or pay nearly $900 to license. It's probably worth the 900 bucks from what I've heard, but that kind of expenditure just isn't going to happen at the moment. Naturally, I first searched the CP articles. The rich text editor blocks I found were Winform based, so no go there. Anyone know of a C# / ASP.NET rich text edit control that's free or on the cheap which doesn't require me selling my soul to the Penguins?

I've used openwysiwyg[^] a bit (though not too extensively), but I found it very robust and user friendly.
Looks interesting, but it's got a Penguin license (LGPL).

I have not personally used it No; I'll ask the ASP guys here and see what they say (they had previously pointed me to it, as "the only free ASP .NET RTE control" they knew of). I'll let you know what they say ...

And whats wrong with LGPL? LGPL is not the same as GPL, no need to opensource your stuff or anything..

I haven't found a really good one yet. I'm hoping the new offering (new as in it'll be out in a few weeks) from Developer Express will be as good as their other controls. Meanwhile I've been using Cute Editor[^] which has worked out fairly well. Cheers, Drew.

Basically you need to license any derived work under the same license, LGPL. So if you had to add a toolbar, and that facility was not directly available via the API, and you have to modify the code of the LGPL object, you would have to make it publicly available under the LGPL.

Heh, no kidding. I checked out a bunch of them a year ago. Cute Editor won because it supports custom file providers so I could store images etc. in a database and still have access through the editor. The $129 license for a $5k website worked for me too. Cheers, Drew.

Well, I've downloaded the trial version, and if I can bolt it on and get it working without any major adventures (their forums indicate there may be some), I'll probably be whipping out the credit card before the day is through. Even if they do use X| PayPay. :) Thanks, man!
