Wait a minute: Ratings The ratings are calculated by counting hits of the most popular search engines. The search query that is used is +"<language> programming" The search query is executed for the regular Google, Google Blogs, MSN, Yahoo!, and YouTube web search for the last 12 months. The web site Alexa.com has been used to determine the most popular search engines. The number of hits determine the ratings of a language... Yeah, thats accurate.

My current favourite word is: Bacon!

This has been discussed, again and again and again and always we (the denizens of the CP lounge) have come to the conclusion that their method of rating is pure, untouched, unadulterated, genuine, verifiable, refined trash.

Thank you, I was about to say something along those lines :-D When you have someone like myself, who can program in 15+ languages, who really cares about popularity of a language at that point? It is just then a matter of which language helps get the job done in a good, efficient manner.

:-D Yes, it certainly does. Seems every time someone one posts the stats from the said site, I kind of just yawn  If I recall, last time someone posted about programming language popularity from that site, it was agreed that it could be very skewed and not giving the whole picture.

Off-topic, I realise - but when you view the source of any of the pages on http://www.tiobe.com[^], you will see the content is automatically generated through JavaScript. Now I initially thought this was quite nice. Then, I wondered how such a site would be indexed by search engines. If you turn off JavaScript, you don't see very much. Anyway...

As if most of the members of CP would ever admit to something other than an MS controlled tech as being viable. Anecdotal evidence would suggest that C++ and Java each carry a user base larger than .NET.

Exactly. I'd program in logo[^] or in (God forbid I should have to go back to that :suss:) VB6, if I knew it was the tool that will get the job done in a proper manner. I suppose though, the words, in a proper manner instantly rule out VB6 :D

I know it to be true of Java. Heck, most of the jobs I had were Java related. I don't make any claims either way to C++ though.

That's what I was introduced to it with. When the Apple IIe first came out.
