Yet another attempt to measure programming language popularity...

This has been discussed, again and again and again and always we (the denizens of the CP lounge) have come to the conclusion that their method of rating is pure, untouched, unadulterated, genuine, verifiable, refined trash.
"Every time Lotus Notes starts up, somewhere a puppy, a kitten, a lamb, and a baby seal are killed. Lotus Notes is a conspiracy by the forces of Satan to drive us over the brink into madness. The CRC-32 for each file in the installation includes the numbers 666." Gary Wheeler "You're an idiot." Thank you, I was about to say something along those lines :-D When you have someone like myself, who can program in 15+ languages, who really cares about popularity of a language at that point? It is just then a matter of which language helps get the job done in a good, efficient manner.

:-D Yes, it certainly does. Seems every time someone one posts the stats from the said site, I kind of just yawn  If I recall, last time someone posted about programming language popularity from that site, it was agreed that it could be very skewed and not giving the whole picture.

Off-topic, I realise - but when you view the source of any of the pages on http://www.tiobe.com[^], you will see the content is automatically generated through JavaScript. Now I initially thought this was quite nice. Then, I wondered how such a site would be indexed by search engines. If you turn off JavaScript, you don't see very much. Anyway...

As if most of the members of CP would ever admit to something other than an MS controlled tech as being viable. Anecdotal evidence would suggest that C++ and Java each carry a user base larger than .NET.

Your reply is far more interesting than the TIOBE site findings! I posted it as a joke, but I guess my humor wasn't shining through. :-D

Exactly. I'd program in logo[^] or in (God forbid I should have to go back to that :suss:) VB6, if I knew it was the tool that will get the job done in a proper manner. I suppose though, the words, in a proper manner instantly rule out VB6 :D

I know it to be true of Java. Heck, most of the jobs I had were Java related. I don't make any claims either way to C++ though.

Tell me about it :) We programmed in Qbasic when I was in Junior High then we went for our summer vacation and when we came back all the XTs had been exchanged for Macs (Apple IIe IIRC) and that's when we started to learn Logo :)
