Wow - had to use Yahoo for searching :-)

that depressing sea green colour
Didn't you know? Corrosion Green is the new black. Just look at Vista's boot up - you've got the nice, soothing blue that everyone knows from research is a feel good color, and over the top of it you've got this green slime dripping down over it. I don't know what kind of medication these guys are on, but I'm sure glad it wasn't available in the 70s. :)

I just looked at Microsoft's new Live Search[^] ...not bad...
I don't like "Live Search" that much. I did searching my name "Michael Sync" in Live Search but they don't give my blog directly... I'm pleased with Google's search result. :) yes. of course, nobody is gonna search my name since it's not important for them.. :) but you know, it's my name so it's so important for me.. I was so much enjoy by searching my name again and again when I started blogging. :P hehe..
Thanks and Regards, Michael Sync ( Blog: http://michaelsync.net)

Yeah.. not bad.. Hope they will improve a lot soon.. Actually, my blog is "http://michaelsync.net" ... Not http://michaelsync.blogspot.com/[^] In Google result, there are some special links under my domain. :) Live search give me "http://michaelsync.net/category/syncs-gallery/[^]" instead of http://michaelsync.net[^]. seems like they don't know what the main URL is. http://michaelsync.blogspot.com and http://michaelsync.wordpress.com/ are dead old blog. but Live search has no idea which one is active or not.. However, I think Live Search is improved a lot.. I think, they used Ajax earlier and it was really suck..
Thanks and Regards, Michael Sync ( Blog: http://michaelsync.net)

Well, don't be too hard on these Live developers. After all, improving the user experience isn't really their priority since Marketing says the way to draw in the masses is with online games. However, marketing stupidity and poor priorities aside, the guys who wrote the games did some nice stuff given the constraints of their requirements. They're also an absolutely insane group of developers. My kind of people. :-D

LOL! That's terrible though...poor Kurt. The whole 'Live' thing needs a little coordination...I've just been surfing through it...different colours everywhere, mismatched styles and they really need to lay off the subliminal pushing of Vista and let it be it's own thing. I guess now that they've given up on Yahoo, they'll have to jolly well do it all themselves :) It's not bad though...it could be something if they put in the effort and be patient with it.

Was that the one you wrote 6 versions of for the same client?
Yep, that's the one. But in fairness, it was only 4 1/2 versions. I really wanted to do the fifth version because, as any World War II fighter pilot knows, 5 kills and you're an ace. :-D

I actually try it once in a while. I don't like their new UI - they have this rectangular area that kinda stays in the middle of the whole screen. Kinda makes it look smaller and cramped.
I never understood the whole club.live thing. If they want to compete with Google, instead of all the games, why not just focus on creating a superior user experience?

Yahoo games is (or at least was) rather popular - and maybe Msft got the idea from there. I remember spending hours playing Spades on Yahoo back in Trivandrum when I was going to college.

Yeah, I know. I'm a baaaaaad boy... :) The problem with Microsoft isn't a lack of talent. They've got a lot of great techies over there. Unfortunately, just as it is in so many other places, the techies who could really make it rock are the people with the least amount of power to make a difference. Microsoft has grown so huge they just have staggering levels of bureaucracy in place that make it almost impossible to get anything done, let alone come up with a new or creative angle on a product. Every POS bit of software that comes out of Redmond only sucks because it encountered Design by Committee. I wish Bill or Steve could afford to hire me as a consultant and give me carte blanche. I'd fire about 50% of their people, all middle managers. It would slash millions, even billions from their budget and improve their quality and responsiveness in ways they could only fantasize about today. But alas, I just don't think they're willing to spend the money. :-D

 Seriously though, one reason I don't use non-Google search engines is that I am worried I'd miss out on some useful hits. Like someone else said just now, if your name doesn't bring up your website and blog as first and second search results, it's not safe to use the search engine for serious searching.

Google is down here (as is Gmail). For a while I was kinda wondering what to do - I mean the thought of using an alternate search website didn't even occur to me for a short while :-) Eventually I used Yahoo - only to find that Smitha had just done that too on finding Google down! Yahoo's not so bad. Though when Google's back, I am going back to Google!

Yeah...I've seen the same thing in other companies. Too many layers of 'management'...if you can call it that. Out of control meeting culture and everyone wears a mask and is afraid to show any emotion, in case the Body Snatchers from Human Resources gets them. 'They get you while you sleep'...

Honestly, not at first. I did think of it after I thought of Yahoo. Also do you mean Live search? Or are Msn search and Live search the same now?

My latest book : C++/CLI in Action / Amazon.com linkAgreed, for sure. And what I really don't get is why that's hard, at least for cash flow rich guys like Yahoo, Microsoft, etc. It's not because the geeks aren't good enough, it's because management and marketing continually get in the way. If only the geeks had the run of the farm...

My latest book : C++/CLI in Action / Amazon.com linkYay! Go Yahoo search results - I find them waaaay above google's when it comes to looking for local stuff (australia). As in , real stuff like 'where is that wine from?'. My rule - google for finding technical information, localised yahoo for finding real-world stuff / local companies websites.

I've been using AltaVista as my start page lately in an attempt to reduce my Google usage. Yahoo's start page is too tabloid, all that celebrity crap and news that you don't want to know :)
