If I remember, your wife's grandpa died when you were gone. I'm very sorry to hear about your mom. If it was found early, lymphatic cancer is one that can be treated more easily than other cancers (assuming it's non-Hodgkins). I have an aunt that ever since I can remember she has had some form of cancer. First it was skin cancer, then thyroid, and liver. About every 18 months I get a call from my cousin. I've never gotten an "all clear" so I just always assume she has it. She's had 2/3 of her liver removed, yet being in her 80's she lives on her own and still cooks for the holidays. If your mom is a stubborn old bird, her mental fight can do a lot to help. My prayers are with you and your mom. Completely OT, have you been in the US during July 4th?

I am in Portland OR. I fly home on the weekend. Then, I come back to the US on July 2. In the middle, I mind the kids while my wife flies to her fathers 60th. So, I am home for a while from July 19. My sister emailed today to say my mother has cancer in her lymph nodes. My mother being a drama queen, no-one knows how bad it is, but it sure seems bad enough that I should be visiting, instead of being on the other side of the earth. Things always go wrong when I am away.

Whether they do or not, i know i sure feel a lot more helpless if i'm out of town and something goes down back home. I shouldn't, at least when it's something i can't do anything about anyway... but, there you go. Hope your ma comes out of this ok, CG.

Dang man. ...{looks down}... ...{wonders why / what to say}... ... ...{walks off unsure of a lot of things}... That just totally is planet earth. What a bad rap. I can relate though. My mom had it when I was 7. They removed a 27 pound tumor and more or less they got it all because she is still here and the cancer... well... it's gone. May you get home without trouble and find things are better than you feel right now.

Hey Christian, my best wishes for your mom. My mom had lymphoma but she beat it. It's been about 15 years since she was first diagnosed, but although her white cell count is very low, she keeps chugging along - at 80 years young. She's active in the Pittsburgh art scene, and keeps cranking out masterpieces. OK - shameless plug, you can see her works at gghersch.com. Keep your hopes up, and your prayers coming.

That sounds like Hodgkins Lymphoma. It could go either way so don't take the drama queen stuff lightly. Lymph node cancer can be very serious.

I'm obviously not educated/procatice in medicine, but my wife is...Lymph Node cancer is/can be very bad (not that any cancer is good, but some are worse are far as treating and this is one)...we lost a friend to that same cancer years ago. Let's hope they caught it early enough to take care of it.

That's got to be hard, I hope your flight home is better then some of your others, and you get to see your mom soon. I wish you and your family all the best from a bad situation.

Sorry to hear that Christian. Let's hope your mother will be OK soon, anyway, be with her as much time you can. Good luck and let's hope she gets better. :rose:

From her doctor, find out what stage the lymphoma is in. I believe up to Stage II, it is eminently curable. I had a colleague whose wife was diagnosed with lymphoma; she had the lymph nodes excised, went on 18 months of chemo and was all right after that. That was 30 years ago. Medicine has advanced since then so cure rates ought to be even higher. Best of luck to your mom.
