Exercising your rights is not ridiculous. What's ridiculous is the fact that you live in a society where you feel your wellbeing is so threatened that you need to carry a gun to work.

Texas did not have the concealed weapon allowance for some time. Then in the 1980's a guy shot up a fast food restaurant. A woman, whose parents were shot, had left her gun in her car because of no concealment. She argued in front of Texas government that had she had a concealed weapon, she could have taken the gunman down. It's assurance against the idiots.

In my country, you're almost considered a criminal for just having a gun anywhere, but that's because the primary use of a gun is not self defence or hunting, but crime. It's an offence to own a gun and allow it to be stolen e.g. out of your car.

Wow... My employer has had that policy in place for a few years now, but i've never been searched entering the building... :~ ...Then again, i've never visited the Waco plant.

a government that is happy to investigate violent crime but prohibits citizens from defending themselves, or the people who permit this to be done to them. There are crazies in any society, and they tend to come out of the woodwork during economic hard times. No law will prevent them from being armed, no amount of police or guard "protection" will save their victims. Only an armed, free citizen has a chance to survive and to, perhaps, save several others in the process. An employer that limits employees this way probably means well, but is sadly misguided.

On Monday, they posted signs at most of the entry/exit points to the office declaring that we can't carry weapons on company property. This morning, two police officers were posted at the elevator, and they searched everybody for weapons. I got here before the cops, so they haven't searched me yet - grin. My NRA belt buckle may give me away...

I'd suggest you oppose (and fight) the policy with complaints, not by ignoring it. That will put you in a morally superior position: "Look, I am respecting the policy, but I think I should not have to..." In Germany, it is hard enough to get a gun-ownership permission, even harder to be allowed to carry, and nearly impossible (except for government officials) to carry concealed. Which isn't a bad thing, as far as I am concerned, but shooting is a lot of fun anyway, especially with the big guns. I've had the pleasure of visiting a friend who owns a wide array of guns, and been trying some in on his club's range. Recoil's a bitch ;)

However, almost every company has a "We reserve the right to terminate you for any reason..." mumbo jumbo in thier company handbook. Refusing to obey company policy is certainly a valid reason to fire you. Unless of course, you live in one of those states where it is almost impossible to fire anyone for any reason.

Honestly, I've never carried on company property, and I generally leave the firearms in the car ifI'm at work. I never once commented that I'd violate the policy. I know of at least two people that have carried in the office, and both have their CHL, so I wasn't worried about it. BTW, criminals don't generally obey the law, so they're not going to be the first in line for the classes/license. You can pass all the lawas and restrictions you want, but the bad guys don't care (that's why they're "criminals").
