Ever been to prison?

Yes, I have spent some time incarcerated for undisclosed activities. Note: I have never been convicted or put on trial;. So I'm not a criminal. :-) The sex wasn't as good as people tell you, cause I just don't fancy small blokes.:-) But it's a good place to get into shape and get your thoughts together. How many CP'ers have ever been arrested and spent time in jail? About 6 or 7 months ago I was arrested on "suspicion" of being an illegal immigrant here in South Africa. I was in a taxi that got pulled over and as the officer was checking the drivers licenses, he kept complaining (to me) about how hot it was. Only problem is he was speaking in a language called Sotho, which I don't understand. I mentioned that I didn't speak Sotho and blam! Right into the back of a police van. Of course I didn't have my passport with me but my flat was only 5 minutes away. I told the cops that but they preferred to drive 45 minutes back to the jail house instead. My HR manager came a few hours later with my passport and permits, problem was, she also came screaming at the top cop and he didn't take too kindly to that so he chased her away and I ended up spending a whole day and a half in jail. Not a pleasant experience. By the way, if you're Albanian or Serbian or "Former Yugoslavian", or just look anywhere near white enough, and you'e having problems illegally entering the UK or Spain or wherever, do feel free to illegally come to South Africa!! There seems to be an unwritten law that the cops here follow...it goes like this. Yes, I have - in America in 1992. A great story: My girlfirend of the time and me decided to go visit my gay Uncle Al (I kid you not) in NYC, with the aim of seeing the big city and taking in some of New England (this in the autumn - fall - so we wanted to be typical "leafers" and see the various states in all their glory). We spent a few days in Manhattan and then hired a car and hit the road. We eventually ended up in a place called Provincetown - which turned out to be a gay resort right on the coast - a very beuatiful place indeed. Now, it is important to know that my girlfriend had a bit of a problem when drunk - she would often get abusive and violent :( but promised to be on her best behaviour and like an idiot, I gave her the benefit of the doubt. The first night in Provincetown, the three of us hit a Karoake bar and my girlfriend started knocking back the vodka. Before the night was over, I *knew* something bad was going to happen. Sure as eggs are eggs, she started to lose it, arguing with strangers, being abusive and generally behaving like a spoilt b*tch. Al and me decided we had to get her back to the hotel before things got out of hand. Eventually, we made it back and she promptly sat on her backside in the hotel lobby and started screaming abuse at me. I tried to reason with her (I was stone cold sober), but true to form, she launched herself at me, fists flying (I was used to this by now). While I am stood there with both her wrists in my hands, trying to stop her punching me, the hotel manager appeared, put two and two together and came up with five - he thought that *I* was assaulting her. However, she calmed down and we got up to the room and went to bed. Next thing I knew, the hotel door came flying open and we were faced by two armed coppers. Al and myself were promptly arrested ("for our own protection" apparently) and carted off to the Police Station in a cruiser (ha ha, etc.). They threw us both in the "drunk tank" and let us out at 8AM (I was dressed in my pants and T shirt - and it was freezing bastard cold!). Luckily, they didn't take my fingerprints and there is no record of this (else my chances of getting back into the US in the future would of been small). They threatened to deport me, etc. but I remained calm. Unfortunately, my Uncle Al, being a typical drama queen (literally) went NUTS. He is a card-carrying member of the ACLU, and spent all night screaming about his rights at the top of his voice (no sleep for me!). He had a point. However, he also

Hmm, that's funny but it's pretty interesting at the same time. Over here, every single one of my friends has been to prison for some nonsense or other. Like a fight with a girlfriend or wife, or breaking some old regime law or unpaid speeding fines. So it never is a big deal to announce that you've been in. Guess it's not the same out in the West :-) Incidentally, as I was thrown in jail for no good reason at all, I have no criminal record, hell, no record of arrest even! My friend and I were arrested for stealing a car in Zimbabwe on new years eve of 1997. My dad and my cousin had to drive 6 hours to come rescue us from a town the size of my company (i.e. tiny) but which had a jail bigger than the empire state! The thing was that it was my dads car and they did not believe us, he had lent it to me so that I could drive to Kariba (the town) and join some other friends for a new years bash. Apparently a lot of white kids steal cars in South Africa and drive them up through Africa to be sold or exported wherever. So we were prime suspects in Zimbabwe. Ironic that here in SA (and other parts of the world) two black guys in a nice car are prime suspects  We spent a few hours being shown around the prison, them showing us the exact cells they were going to throw us into. Most were filled with huge hulking black guys who are not too friendly towards whites. Eventually they impounded the car and kicked us out of the jail onto the side of the road to wait for my dad. They did not even take our names, I reckon they were all dead bored and wanted to have some fun with us white kids lol. It was definitley an experience :-D regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass Cape Town, South Africa
