I've heard enough from the people who want the LHC experiment to be stopped because they think it will cause the world (or even the universe) to end. Having said that, if we do manage to screw ourselves out of existence, here's to you guys! :-D I would have liked to meet more of you, but I'm sure I will. ;)
Cheers, Vıkram.

No it is not. People really have to take a chill pill about it.

Nah... just a Gnab Gib. I plan to film it, then run the film backwards to start a whole new universe. I'll save you a seat.

IIRC they are only running the first protons round the loop tomorrow, not actually colliding, so we should be OK until the weekend at least.
Oh great. There goes my weekend. :)

Ah...so you are like Jonathan Swift? “I have ever hated all nations, professions and communities, and all my love is towards individuals .... Principally I hate and detest that animal called Man; although I heartily love John, Peter, Thomas, and so forth.” - Swift

All folks who pretend to religion and grace, Allow there's a hell, but dispute of the place: But, if hell may by logical rules be defined The place of the damn'd--I'll tell you my mind. Wherever the damn'd do chiefly abound, Most certainly there is hell to be found: Damn'd poets, damn'd critics, damn'd blockheads, damn'd knaves, Damn'd senators bribed, damn'd prostitute slaves; Damn'd lawyers and judges, damn'd lords and damn'd squires; Damn'd spies and informers, damn'd friends and damn'd liars; Damn'd villains, corrupted in every station; Damn'd time-serving priests all over the nation; And into the bargain I'll readily give you Damn'd ignorant prelates, and counsellors privy. Then let us no longer by parsons be flamm'd, For we know by these marks the place of the damn'd: And HELL to be sure is at Paris or Rome. Pity for us that HELL is also our home! based on your quote, I guess I need make no appology to Swift for the change in the last line. :-D

very much so.... I think that the intelligence of a group is equal to the lowest IQ minus the number of people in the group. :-D you quickly see how large groups can quickly degrade to animal behavior.

fear of the unknown will always drive people to be irrational around that which they cannot understand. I am sure eventually we will screw ourselves, but not tomorrow. :-D

Oh I am sure we'll find a way to screw it up ahead of schedule, if we live that long. :) I'm rather optimistic about man's ability to destroy. :) in that aspect we are one talented bunch! :-D

No, you're underestimating it. Your formula would have a large committee if geniuses still have genius level intelligence, which is obviously incorrect. The correct formula is [Min(All Members IQs)]/[Number of Members].

I don't mean to be a Grammar Nazi, but shouldn't it be "If I were falling off the edge...", rather than "If I was falling off the edge..."? I remember being taught in school that the former is right ("If the war were over tomorrow...*"). Just want to know if I'm right or wrong (or just sanctimonious :-D ). * Let's see who gets the reference right! :-D

I like this argument: "were" is a subjunctive form used in contrafactual constructions, whereas "was" is an indictive form used in situations involving propositions with unconfirmed facts.
