1996 was a biblical one? I study the Bible and there's no mention of 1996. :) But it wouldn't surprise me if religious people extrapolated that somehow; religious people have been doing that for ages. :)

Yep. That is what I am wondering, too. Never heard of any reference to the world ending in 1996.

Upgrade too fast. Developers are struggling with new releases all the time to upgrade their applications but have little time to develop new apps between releases.

If Karl was here talking about Cider, i'd be more impressed (even though i care nothing for a cider which i can't drink). But VS isn't promoted to programmers. To read the article linked in the OP, you'd think it was a new toy for the PHB set rather than an overgrown editor.

Isn't that officially called C++08 or 09 now or something? The X was just a placeholder, not part of the name.

So Visual Studio 2010 (potentially to be released in 2009), aka VS10, comes after VS-08 (which was released in 2007). No they haven't skipped a number because VS-08 was also known as VS9, so the next number is VS10. VS10 uses version 4.0 of the .net framework, which is the next one up from v3.5 which is what VS9 used by default, but could also use 2.0 or 3.0, but programs written to target v3.5 of the framework still run on v2.0 of the CLR. Is there any word from MS if VS2010 will come with a new CLR. Perhaps v3.0 of the CLR, for apps written in vs10, targeting the 4.0 framework. Or will you be able to choose CLR versions like you could with framework versions in VS9. I wonder what happens if you try writing apps to target the 2.0 framework on the 3.0 CLR. Oh, and hang on, there are also compiler versions involved here, is VS2010 going to include the 4.0 C# compiler, or will they leave it at 3.0? MS - You've screwed up your version numbers. Pick something that makes sense and stick with it -> Mess 1.0
