PHP for speed definitely, whether for linux, windows or whatever...but ASP if required for nt server or other servers if supported. I try to stay away from asp cause the speed and stability just isn't there. Apache all the way, IIS can stuff it...the security hole god of all servers heh. ColdFusion isn't a bad server though, that is for linux. It's unstable and a resource hog on nt...on linux it's almost 150% faster. As for the new .NET server, not running my server any time soon or ever. FreeBSD all the way :-D

ColdFusion as a language is pretty dirty though. I used it up through CF4. It's really tailored to rapid development, but for any kind of large project (and I have done a few using it) I found it to be pretty crapy (Do they have functions yet?). I can't argue that it isn't very very easy to use though. Ryan Johnston

I agree. Give it time and it might just have its uses for large corporate database systems some day. I find it the easiest to work with when it comes to databases. Heh, it's like vb in a way, If blah = blah Then blahblah LOL. I use it on my nt system which is networked with my freebsd system for certain database functionality thats about it.

...but I've got an interview tomorrow morning!:-D I may be going over to the 'Dark Side' though. Wish me luck....I'm sick of painting and landscaping. Josh Knox that-guy.net
Show off! I've only made 9. Josh Knox wrote: ...but I've got an interview tomorrow morning! :-D I may be going over to the 'Dark Side' though. Good luck in the interview. Who cares who you have to work for, anything technical is good. Josh Knox wrote: Wish me luck....I'm sick of painting and landscaping. Did you luck out and get to do the manual stuff full time. Or was it on and off, when ever they needed and extra man. This is how it has been for me. Can't even rely on the shit shovelling work for a constant supply of money. At least I am starting to find more jobs to apply too and more agents are ringing me up out of the blue. I was wondering when you'd reply. I knew you'd been out for a bit too. Michael Martin wrote: Did you luck out and get to do the manual stuff full time. Or was it on and off, when ever they needed and extra man. Nothing full time. I've been working on and off for a couple friends who have handyman type businesses when they needed a hand. At least I lost most of the programmers' gut I'd developed(still carrying some extra beer though  ) and get a little color. Also managed to bring in a meager amount of cash doing a couple of web pages, building computers, and doing tech support stuff on the side. Michael Martin wrote: Who cares who you have to work for, anything technical is good. I just want to get back to coding. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to start woking on some non-MS stuff to get a little more perspective on the industry. Only problem is that it's gonna be about 95F(35C) tomorrow and the A/C in my car's broke. :( Just hope I don't show up looking like a sweaty bastard. :~ Good luck Mike. Hopefully we're both back to work soon. Josh Knox that-guy.net

10 months...If I knew it would of been that long I would of taken construction full time(90+ a week) if no projects were available. I'm self-employed and I also work construction averaging 90+ hours a week. I like inside work but gotta have the outdoor work as well otherwise I'd go insane. As you can see 10 months without work would drive me insane, actually just 2 weeks would be enough  I wish you luck man. :)

Yeah a good mix of indoor/outdoor is what I need too. Too much time banging my head against a computer and I've got to get out and build something, break something, or just head to the mountains for a hike. Josh Knox that-guy.net

Josh Knox wrote: Just linux, Python, Apache, PHP, and some c/c++. Josh, Good luck. That is definitly not the dark side. PHP is cool and much of Apache is well done. Is that the web server or Tomcat and Cocoon, which is also very cool. If you insist in finding evil in me you will find it, whether it is there or not.

Thanks Man, Michael A. Barnhart wrote: That is definitly not the dark side. I just meant as opposed to MS. I don't really think there's anything bad about it all. I actually really want to learn alot of that stuff. That way I can do alot of the things I want to do with out giving my wife and unborn children to MS. Plus it'll help round out my skills which is something I need the way the industry has been recently. Josh Knox that-guy.net

Good luck! I'll be sending good thoughts/vibes your way. Things are picking up. I'm seeing more job postings and getting more callbacks. I've got a phone interview tomorrow also. I read up on the company. They are doing really good but it looks like a pretty formal company. I don't know if I would fit in there. I'm hoping their website isn't really representative of the company culture. If it goes anywhere I might need to employ Colin's spying techniques. :rose: Cathy Life's uncertain, have dessert first!

(I almost hate to make this statement here but) It acutally shows where Java is a good choice for some programming:-O Good luck If you insist in finding evil in me you will find it, whether it is there or not.

All of my opinions are correct, even when reality makes the mistake of disagreeing with me.
