As some of you may remember I posted here a few months ago to ask for advice on whether or not to use caffeine before an important exam I was going to take; after your feedback I decided not to use caffeine but instead get a couple of weeks of good sleep. It proved to be fruitful and I passed with 96%, getting me where I wanted to be :) In short, thanks for the advice from all that contributed :) Regards, --Perspx

I think you should quit while you're ahead. Nothing beyond Algebra has any practical use unless you want to be an engineer or something. BTW, did you join the Math Debate Team? Nothing like hanging out together and Mathdebating ... LOL.

:laugh: First time I've heard of that. However, in all honesty, the cutest and smartest girls were always hanging out in our math department. Nothing like brains and beauty. We did have a couple of engineerettes too.

Well in the UK most Universities require that you take maths A-level to do an IT-related course, unless it's applied IT or a more essay-based subject, such as business and IT.

Ah, I see. Well the A-level course is predominantly algebra-based, I believe. I'm mainly doing maths as it's a prerequisite for most university courses in IT here in the UK. Regards, --Perspx

Yep. Especially integration by trigonometric substitution. The guy who taught the class I was in, had a real tendency to obscure the problems on the test by multiplying things by factors, making us have to factor terms out just to get to the real problem.

When you get into physics, an introduction to PDEs ( partial differential equations) is helpful for dealing with Maxwell's equations. I did not have a formal background with PDEs and the physics teacher I had, did a good job at explaining how to work with PDEs to a bunch of us non math majors.

integration was my real problem with calc. Differentiation was easy, basic integration likewise, but every explanation of how to do integration by parts was NP. :doh:

I agree that integration by parts was so-so back in the college days. Nowadays, I look back at it in my old calculus text, and it makes more sense. I wish it would have made more sense during the final exams :rolleyes:
