You confuse Christianity with socialism, because you are at enmity with Christ. You are horrified that I like to offer my help to others freely, and brand it something it is not.

So, I do give my money away, but not to liars and morons who don't deserve or need my help. And, once again, I act in a way that emulates Christ, which means it's against your ideals.

It depends. Forcing welfare recipients to perform community service is a great idea. Providing programs that encourage others to help, is also good. Forcing everyone to do community service, even people who work, is probably retarded.

Amazing. Are you sure she wasn't getting SSI? That's not the same thing and is indeed usually paid to people who didn't earn it. At any rate, I don't have much of a problem with the little darlings being asked to do a couple hours a week of service in return for their education whether their parents pay taxes or not.

I do. I bust my ass to provide for my family. I make good money and what's my reward? Paying full tuition (x2 kids) at a state university while others who pay less in taxes get free or reduced tuition. I'm fucking tired of paying my share plus the share of others. Let me pick my charities - don't force them down my neck. And don't treat my "little darlings" like beggars when I'm more than paying my share.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but whenever I suggest that it's good to help others, Ilion calls me a socialist. I'm just playing by his rules. And, the core idea of communism, as opposed to the pretend communism practiced by the USSR, is actually not that different in theory from what the church did. I'm no advocate of socialism or communism. Ilion just thinks I am because I support the ideals of Christ. I was just messing with him, because he deserves it, I'm sorry that I left myself open for misinterpretation.

But it was destined to fail because there is no love and there is no God in communist philosophy.

You'd conditionally lose that bet. During times of war if the circumstances exceed the scope of our volunteer forces I have no problem with the draft. In countries (like Israel) where they need to maintain a defensive force larger than a volunteer army would supply I can certainly understand mandatory service. Neither situation is true (at the moment) in the US.

I'd argue that for us to have fought two insurgencies without totally destroying the national guard's raison d'etre, the need appeared early in 2004. Of course, if Bush had restarted the draft, a lot of the chicken hawks would have seen their kids trying on a uniform and voted for Kerry.
