Mmmm...I had mussels about 10 minutes ago with wild Coho salmon kale for dinner (a 10 minute meal). Just steamed em with white wine, bay leaf, lemon juice, garlic.

So tonight I made dinner to celebrate my first week at my new job (which is going GREAT). I made 1. Crab alfredo fettuccine 2. Shrimp scampi with havarti melted over it 3. Steamed mussels a la leckey (lots of garlic and green onions) Pretty darn tasty for someone who only knew how to make ramen and mac w/cheese 10 years ago!

Yum! I went shopping today for staples, spent $200, and arrived home with no food. Sheesh! Good thing I had some canned chili in the pantry...

Pretty much; ramen is a staple for college kids in the US because of the cheap price. There are dried noodles and a packet of flavoring. A pack of ramen is about 13 cents US.

I knew when I clicked Post Message that someone would pounce on that. :doh: By staples I refer to paper products, canned items, cleaning supplies, spices, etc. It was at a Sam's Club, and packages tend to be rather large there. It will be three years before I have to buy vinegar again, since they only sell it in 3 gallon packages, but I couldn't argue with the price. :-D

I kept hoping I'll get the ramen noodles right. Now I just eat them dry. It's not like I'm eating them for the flavor. Congratulations on the new job. I don't get to the lounge near enough, but I consider hearing how things are going with you one of the good parts of stopping off here.

It's weird around here; the grocery is hit or miss with them and most don't even know how to package them or check whether live/dead. I cook garlic, olive oil, some butter, and green onions for a few minutes. Then I add the mussels. I add a little water if necessary. SO yummy!

You can also add white whine instead of/in addition to the water.
