Yes, and I always acknowledge Europe's debt to the US, and also to Canada, Oz, NZ, India, and all who fought against the Axis powers. We have museums and a library commemorating the USAAF stationed here in WW2. (Some game veterans still make the pilgrimage!) I just hate to see any nation's soldiers described as cowardly.

That became obvious when you said you wished they'd won WWI - I wonder, did you think they'd fight without soldiers?
fat_boy wrote:
You, the dead, the army, are all there to serve the establishment
Probably true in France. It certainly was true in Germany during WWI and WWII.

clue: police != soldiers. I imagine it is a distinction too fine for you to make, but it exists, nonetheless.

You are still talking about soldiers? No. I thought not. Is that A.D.D?

That's what you keep claiming, though i think you're lying. If I'm wrong, why don't you tell them that they're responsible for the death of 13 million in Germany?

Wrong about what? Descartes, your "higher mind" (whatever the fuck that is) example having been a soldier?

Which is why I mentioned an entire class of men: Greek Philosophers. You were the "fucking tool" who only had a single example, dumb-ass.

Regarding your question yesterday. Tune in (if you can) to BBC4tv tonight. 8.10pm "The Great War - An exploration of the aftermath of WW1" and 10pm "Timewatch - The Last Day of WW1 (last in series)" and 11pm "What Did You Do In The Great War, Daddy? - children of men who died during WW1" You may find them interesting, and may answer your questions of yesterday.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves under the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag. I agree with all the sentiments except the last. I read it in English of my own free will (and liking, I may add), which soldier should I thank?
Cheers, Vıkram.

I'd suggest the 1st Gurkha Rifles. But be very polite. The Gurkhas are some of the best soldiers in the world.

I've known of the Gurkhas and their legendary prowess for many many years. But, yes, I checked with Wikipedia to get the name of a specific regiment.

Fat Boy, you're the one who is childish. If it weren't for the RAF, you wouldn't be able to write a "bloody thing" in English, now would you? It would be German, and they would be telling you what to write!

Please don't forget about tanks, airplanes, bombs, mines, torpedoes, missiles, nukes, etc., which are also part of the war machine. After all, it wasn't soldiers that kept the Soviets at bay.

So what? Why should I prefer to write in English? I am English but I dont live there. Why should I feel any special attatchment to English, which is just a Germanic language anyway. As for telling me what to write can you provide any proof that Germany prior to the second world war was in any way more restrictive than Britain at the same time?
