Christmas thoughts.

Our thoughts go out to the Lounge regulars who have had serious problems this year. In particular, I'd like to mention Sebastian Schneider who is going through a particularly bad time. To all who have lost loved ones, their jobs, or who have been diagnosed with some illness, I'd like to offer my best wishes at this time of year.:rose:

I suspect things are rather tough for lots of people at the moment, but Sebastian in particular is in my prayers at the moment. :rose: For some reason I've been feeling lethargic and low today (I can only guess that it is something to do with my family situation, but sometimes these things are just random). On the plus side, I've just received a Belgian beer restock[^] :beer::beer::beer:, and Beth's just fixed one of our dev machines which has been lying around in bits for a couple of weeks by replacing the cheap heatsink Mesh fitted it (and which had fallen off after the baseplate broke) with a much better (and far more eye catching) Silent Knight II[^]. I really do feel like crawling under a rock and pulling the duvet over it, though. :(

My best wishes to everyone. Maybe the next year will be better, my be not, but this thread reminds me the English Captain words from the “Last Samurai” just before the final battle: “A man does what he can until his destiny is revealed”.
The narrow specialist in the broad sense of the word is a complete idiot in the narrow sense of the word. Advertise here – minimum three posts per day are guaranteed.

Agreed. This has been a hell of a good year for me, and it's always good to remember that there's people doing it tough, through no fault of their own.

I am truly fortunate to have a pretty stable job for now. But it doesn't keep me from thinking about the thousands out there that do not - my wife being one of them with a job in the very shaky travel industry. Her company is hanging by a thread. I have been laid off twice and I can sympathize with you. After 9/11 I was able to temporarily re-invent myself and became a real estate agent for nine months but thankfully made it back to an IT job. All I can tell you is to never give up and keep networking. In the interim, if you are at loose ends, find some volunteer work to do. Believe it or not, there are people out there who need you and your energy. You really can make a difference in someone's life who is much less fortunate than you. I'm confident it will change your perspective on things. I wish you all the best in your careers and health in the coming new year. http://www.quotegarden.com/helping.html

No it hasn't. Unlike some, I actually do care about my mates, I feel their pain and share their joy. I find no shame in bonding with my fellow man, in fact, its probably one of the biggest faults in humanity these days, we don't feel with other people.
