Dear CG, I must say that though I usually respect your comments, I disagree with your above statement. It's a highly irrational statement you just made and possibly was driven more by emotion than by any logical thought. I have been using XP for over 8 months now and it's much more stable than 2K ever was. Of course perhaps you mean the XP UI is not very professional, which can easily be tweaked to have the 2K look. Do you have any reason(s) that I might have overlooked in putting down XP in favour of 2K? Nish

How was it a reply to Chris ? Ranjith wrote: You just called me as moron!! Do you care to explain for insulting me and what made you to call me as a moron? I base my opinion on two things. 1. I ran XP for a month or so and it just got more and more unstable. How can anything be more stable than 2000, which I have yet to have crash on me EVER ? W2000 is the uberlord of OS's IMO. 2. My wifes PC had XP OEM and it blew up. I put the HDD in one of my machines so she could keep working and M$ told me that not only was there no way they could circumvent their registration process so she could keep using it, but that when the replacement motherboard came, it may still not register and that would be my bad luck. She runs a pirated 2000 now and the OEM XP CD is a coaster. If it's running stable for you and is not OEM, then stick with it. By now you can probably find stuff in it, which was my other problem, everything has gone to an interface designed to help newbies and I couldn't find a thing. I also hate the huge start menu. It has some very nice features, most of which could be added to 2000 with shell extensions, but nothing compelling me to put up with the problems I have had. You mention that only MS products are afflicted by these problems, but you link to an article which in the first line mentions that "However they break many applications, including Quark". While it is no excuse for MS (and the problem is potentially worse because of IE) I do think we should be fair and mention that "many applications" are afflicted with this problem. Personally I blame Adobe for this problem. They should have tested their output and realised it was best not to make the XML info a default option but rather an optional extra.

It is a problem both MS and Adobe should fix. 1. MS should fix because it is a bug in their software. 2. Adobe should make a temp fix because their customers are having problems using their software for websites. That is the reality of software development. Sure, it isn't Adobe's fault, but sometimes you still have to change your software to make your customers happy. Tim Smith "Programmers are always surrounded by complexity; we can not avoid it... Though I must stress that if MS made some before non-default option default in the, lets say, next VC++ compiler which made your apps not work on anything below Windows XP you would be pissed off. Same here, Adobe have switched on this XML info option without much thought to the consequences. Tim Smith wrote: That is the reality of software development. I think it was you who pointed out on another thread how change for change sake is not good, but a neccesity in any case.

ok ok . i missed that bit about Quark. but, you have to admit, quark could disappear tomorrow and 85% of the world wouldn't care. (those other 15% would be pissed, but they'd pick up something else quickly) -c
