Many are wondering if all the new guy knows how to do is throw money at problems and hope they'll go away.

When he was first elected, I argued rather vociferously that he deserved a chance before being excoriated as just another tax-and-spender. I am glad to say that I was correct and those in here who said he was just another Bill Clinton have been proved dead wrong. He is orders of magnitude further to the left than Clinton and now that he can be judged by deeds rather than rhetoric, a considerably less skilled politician than Bush (and you don't know how much that pains me to say. X| ) Part of the problem is, of course, our electoral process. By definition, these days, we elect the best campaigner - which I think has become a synonym for liar. Obama was a perfect blank slate upon which to write our hopes for a surcease of the reactive lurching from pillar to post that characterised the previous administration. His soaring rhetoric and youthful vigor stood in sharp contrast to John McCain's innate but halting decency and advancing age. When he promised us the moon, we wanted to believe he'd serve it up to us, already spread on crackers.

It is my fondest wish that the 2010 elections provide enough additional votes to Republicans, at least in the Senate, to keep the Reid-Pelosi-Obama-Emanuel Horsemen of the Apocalypse from riding roughshod over the future of our kids. I can only hope that Obama's arrogance has caused him to overreach. Already there are a few signs of dissent among Democrats in swing state or who rode the anti-Bush tide that swept even conservative areas of the country. Perhaps America will have some luck and he will be unable to get his suicidal agenda through the Congress, even before the next elections. One thing is absolutely true - the 2010 election cycle has already begun. It doesn't seem far-fetched that we might see a halt to the continued slide in the economy and perhaps a return to unemployment below 9%. What the market does is any one's guess. It's a fun game but doesn't seem to have that much to do with the real world. What would make a difference would be Bernanke being reigned in - AFAIK there's no real-world way of doing that, and for us to

You echo my thoughts and feelings. Empires rise and fall. I just hoped this one would last a bit longer that it seems it will. I guess it's China's turn again. I just hope we haven't blown our shot (as a species - I think we have as a nation) at space travel and interstellar colonization. If we're doomed to remain on this planet, then we are doomed to eventual extinction.

They are not part of NATO, but they do have an embassy in Iraq, so it is conceivable that the soldiers guarding their embassy could be killed. Yah know, jokes lose their humor when you think too much about them. :)

Wouldn't they need some humor first to lose? Sorry, but that was pathetic. I'm all for a good Obama joke, but at least raise the bar to something requiring some thought. (Yeah, I know Gary, its Mike's joke.

It just occurred to me. Nixon was the man who opened up the American/Chinese trading 'partnership,' and he's the man who took us off the gold standard - opening the way for massive inflation.

... and yet this joke was posted here ages ago and used Bush. What it really highlights is how swiftly the mighty have fallen. Is this an early indication of how Obama is perceived?

Too bad they're not making jokes about LBJ's wife. That would be much more acceptable in my eyes - you could say that a post on the Bird is worth two on the Bush.

The Department Of Defense briefed the president this morning. They told OBAMA that 2 Brazilian soldiers were killed in Iraq To everyone's surprise, all the color drained from Obama's face. Then he collapsed onto his desk, head in his hands, visibly shaken, almost in tears. Finally, he composed himself and asked, 'Just how many is a brazilian?' This is especially funny since he obviously has no understanding of billion or trillion either.

No, not really. The only thing that makes it funny is the relationship between brazilian an some very large number names, which sound similar. That combined with the vast sums of money being spent by the Obama administration makes it topical. With Bush, it would be a stretch... It really is all right to laugh at someone other than Bush you know...
