Could someone explain the status system?

Not true. You can't get gold from time in service, you can from message count OR article count. trust me[^]. I've yet to write a single article. I'm gold.

You're Gold because you were grandfathered under the old rules. It seems if someone had 1500 messages as of when the rules changed last year, they kept their gold status. I used to be gold too, but lost it because I was under the 1500 mark when the rules changed. Cheers, Drew.

I had hit Silver, and at that point I hadn't posted. Since every 500 posts adds a level, then I had thought I had hit the criteria for Gold Unless the 'get a job' comment was a joke, then it was completely unnecessary. For your information, I'm trying to; it's a little difficult when I'm still studying for my AS levels
Sorry CF. Definitely intended as a joke... I guess I should have used a Now Get Off My Lawn instead :-O

or you can be like me .. and not give a rats ass.. been here a long time, employer forbids me posting articles, and I get no respect ( Rodney Dangerfield) .. for my off topic posts

Well, fred_, couldn't you post them using an alias? ;)

I'm not really bothered, just wanted to help with article approvals. It was more of a point of curiosity than a complaint
Are you nuts? I created a new account to get rid of gold, I got sick watching the stupid "articles" on the home page. :)

Not me... I've invested all my Gold Member Bucks (®) into a line of clothes designed by Lindsey Lohan & Britney Spears. Once they make their big comebacks I'm gonna be RICH!

How disappointing. :suss:

Yeah, the global recession is taking its toll. My understanding is that the annual "CP Gold+ Social Cruise" may be altered as well. The Hawaiian cruise was too costly so they're considering a cheaper one off the coast of Somalia.
Wow that really sucks. Last years cruise was great, that bit with Chris, Bob, and the hamsters was just really emotionally uplifting. I was looking forward to a repeat this year, but maybe we'll get front row seats to a SEAL ass-kicking contest instead!

Not completely. By looking at some of the really good new articles, I wanted to pick up tips on how to write my own. Most precisely, the introductions and writing style - if I wanted to, I would want to be able to put the links on my CV without being embarrassed

No need to worry; no offence taken. I'm just feeling a little grumpy tonight for some reason
the Bronze is awarded at post #1 instead of post #500, to get to Gold you need to get to post at least 1000 messages: normally it would be 500 messages = +1 level 1 year = +1 level (up to Silver) so it's 500 messages (Bronze), 500 messages (+1 level -> Silver), 500 messages (+1 level -> Gold) or 500 posts (Bronze), 1 year (+1 level -> Silver), 500 posts (+1 level -> Gold) membership years do not add a level above Silver, only +500 posts and unless you submit articles, Gold is the highest you can get.

Really good articles are plenty, and the new ones become available pretty soon assuming they are good. No need to see the crap that is used to try and get gold, to use as file server, to impress (?) people, and what have you. If you need examples, look for platinum members (first two pages of "who is who", sorted by article count). :)

I have suggested lots of things, including an "I have seen this, don't show it ever again" button, a "hide unapproved stuff" setting, buttons to vote on separate aspects of "articles" (length, content, style, clarity, ...) to no avail. Rather than make life easier for people who devote part of their time to make this a nice site, recent changes made it more difficult to tell you didn't like the "article" for some reason; now you have to type a lot of comment, and expect replies to that, etc etc. while CodeProject refuses to install a simple filter that would throw away half of the junk automatically anyway, without risking false negatives. :)

Having looked into some of the forums, I'd disagree when it comes to stupidity. One person didn't Google something because (s)he claimed that it was 'offline'
yes, unfortunately only a small subset of the alternatives got offered. Why isn't anyone using Altavista any more? :)
