Not me... I've invested all my Gold Member Bucks (®) into a line of clothes designed by Lindsey Lohan & Britney Spears. Once they make their big comebacks I'm gonna be RICH!

Yeah, the global recession is taking its toll. My understanding is that the annual "CP Gold+ Social Cruise" may be altered as well. The Hawaiian cruise was too costly so they're considering a cheaper one off the coast of Somalia.

Wow that really sucks. Last years cruise was great, that bit with Chris, Bob, and the hamsters was just really emotionally uplifting. I was looking forward to a repeat this year, but maybe we'll get front row seats to a SEAL ass-kicking contest instead!

Are you nuts? I created a new account to get rid of gold, I got sick watching the stupid "articles" on the home page. :)

Not completely. By looking at some of the really good new articles, I wanted to pick up tips on how to write my own. Most precisely, the introductions and writing style - if I wanted to, I would want to be able to put the links on my CV without being embarrassed

the Bronze is awarded at post #1 instead of post #500, to get to Gold you need to get to post at least 1000 messages: normally it would be 500 messages = +1 level 1 year = +1 level (up to Silver) so it's 500 messages (Bronze), 500 messages (+1 level -> Silver), 500 messages (+1 level -> Gold) or 500 posts (Bronze), 1 year (+1 level -> Silver), 500 posts (+1 level -> Gold) membership years do not add a level above Silver, only +500 posts and unless you submit articles, Gold is the highest you can get.

Really good articles are plenty, and the new ones become available pretty soon assuming they are good. No need to see the crap that is used to try and get gold, to use as file server, to impress (?) people, and what have you. If you need examples, look for platinum members (first two pages of "who is who", sorted by article count). :)

But this basement is comfortable! It's got everything I need: fusion reactor, MUTEX, interference pattern generator, defence mechanisms and telepathic security. If I move all of that, then the black helicopters descend and the FBI moves in

I have suggested lots of things, including an "I have seen this, don't show it ever again" button, a "hide unapproved stuff" setting, buttons to vote on separate aspects of "articles" (length, content, style, clarity, ...) to no avail. Rather than make life easier for people who devote part of their time to make this a nice site, recent changes made it more difficult to tell you didn't like the "article" for some reason; now you have to type a lot of comment, and expect replies to that, etc etc. while CodeProject refuses to install a simple filter that would throw away half of the junk automatically anyway, without risking false negatives. :)

Have you considered using AdBlock? A simple filter will block part of a site, and you can enable or disable the rule as you wish

yes, unfortunately only a small subset of the alternatives got offered. Why isn't anyone using Altavista any more? :)

I hadn't. I now looked into it, I don't believe it would help, the "articles-needing-approval" is just a table inside a div, there is no URL called or whatever. :)

You're welcome. But I'm not a professional developer. I can very rarely afford to buy a control for $### when I can build one myself and learn from it. I've done this about 50 times, and it's worked like a charm. I'll try to upload them along with articles sometime

I've currently got 506 messages, and have been a member for 2.5 years. According to the little snippet on my profile I should be Gold. To be precise, this bit: Each 500 messages posted adds one level, and if a member has posted a message then each year of membership adds 1 level until the member hits Silver Each year of membership adds 1 level - check, putting me at Silver Each 500 messages posted adds one level - check. So, which level should I be? This is a little confusing, and I could do with some clarification

If you have to ask about status you automatically have none. ;)
