From the article:
About 390,000 people listed their religion as Jedi in the 2001 Census for England and Wales. In Scotland the figure was a reported 14,000. The Office for National Statistics did not recognise it as a separate category, and incorporated followers of Jedi with the atheists.
I'm sure the athiests love that.
Don't blame me. I voted for Chuck Norris.

There was a rumour going round some time ago that, if a certain number of peolple listed a particular religion on the census form, it would become an officiall recognised religion - so there was a call to put down 'Jedi' as a bit of a joke (especially as the rumours were not true) I suspect many put down Jedi as opposedto writing 'none of your f*ing business'

I agree with Maxx, Jedi is just as useful as athiest, agnostic, any other non religion you like. So a bunch of coppers are taking the mickey out of a stupid, beurecratic form that pisses them off, good on them, the more people ridicule some of this information gathering the better.
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity RAH

I may not do it personally, but I think it's cool. Maybe they just wanted to cock a snook at the establishment, or at religious people. Why do you think it's sad?
Cheers, Vıkram.

What does it require so that you consider it as a valuable official religion? Do they need to have some members bomb train stations or kill some abortion doctors or is it about child abusing?

They're just using a euphemism for MYOB, nothing sad about it. I always answer Tree Worshipper to such questions.

And Jane's Fighting Aircraft. I used to think that girls on Harleys were hot, women that like guns and things that go boom; that just takes it to another level. :-O
