Web hosting recommendations

OK, so I have had it with godaddy. Can anyone recommend a web host ? We need a SQL Server database, ASP.NET 2.0, or 3.5 ( I don't think we care ), the ability to run HTTP Handlers on the host ( so probably IIS7 ), the ability to send email in code ( sounds odd, but GoDaddy has all sorts of restrictions ), and a mail server that we can also use in our program to send mail with attachments.

discountasp.net[^] are the best, most relaible service I've ever used and I've used plenty. Happy to recommend them.

I'd say go for Softsys Hosting[^]. They're cheap, notably up to date, provide active support, and, their uptime is OK (didn't make strong tests to uptime though).

If there is room in the budget I liked The Planet[^] the last time I launched an asp.net site for a client. It's been many moons since I've used them so, I can only hope that they are still running a tight ship.

Maybe they had a bad experience with The Planet?

I would of expected a reason for it, if they had.

Not sure about the email, but Arvixe meets all your other requirements, starting at $5.00/month ($7.00 if you want dedicated IP). See here: http://www.arvixe.com/asp_net_web_hosting.
Best wishes, Hans

I like www.ihostasp.net, they are good guys, offer good service, good support and are very reasonably priced.

dont bloody go near Webhost4life - those pr***ks deleted a whack of our emails without warning a couple of weeks ago We lost months of email that they were unable to retrieve due to their F-up. They ran an undocumented mail purge - the ***)&*(&&*^&*(^&*( ers And no, we were nowhere near our allotted mailbox size limits  Bryce

DiscountASP.com has some pretty good add-ons and plugins and they offer IIS7 with SQL 2008 - maybe a little pricy. HostMySite.com has similarly good package with options and their helpdesk support is absolutely killer - after hours e-mail support alone averages around 15-30 mins response time! happy hunting, whatever you do...dont host in south africa - they a hellish expensive(comparing price per MB of storage/bandwidth) and the one crowd has a bloke that friggin stutters on help desk/support!

I have been with www.JodoHost.com since 2004 and have been pretty happy with them. Good support and fairly flexible. I have been tempted to change because I did not want to use the EMS Sql Lite tool and when they upgrade databases (say 2000 to 2005) and you want to use the newer, you will have to create a new account (set everything up and then close the old one). On the other hand they communicate well about server upgrades/maintenance and the price is right for what I need. I don’t know about the HTTP handlers, I have never tried but I think you could if you do it in the web.config file.
