The sight of Jeremy Clarkson (class 1 petrolhead and motormouth) shovelling coal all the way from London to Edinburgh has to be one of the funniest things I've seen in ages. By the end he we rooting for the train to win, which was almost as funny as seeing him exhausted and covered in coal dust... This picture says it all...[^] Tornado's an amazing piece of engineering though. I'm almost not surprised he was dribbling over it. And no, I don't believe [spoiler deleted] is the Stig either!

Excellent TG episode. The new series is in with a bang, and I'm looking forward to seeing the drag race between the Maclaren F1 and the Veyron. I wonder if they are going to do a different Stig every week to do the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car slot?

I imagine you can get it for free by registering as a volunteer and working your way up, though. Which line is that, BTW? We're effectively halfway between the Swanage and Mid-Hants lines, but what is now the Weardale line runs right past the back garden of the house I grew up in.

Its the Chinnor & Princess Risborough railway in Oxfordshire, Quite a nice one.. about 7 miles long. www.chinnorrailway.co.uk[^] They are hoping to go straight into Princes Risborough station in the near future pending any agreements with Network Rail..

Very likely. As others have said elseware, he almost certainly came alone to showcase that Ferrari (and blew the lap times board in the process!).

Indeed! In fact Ferrari only allowed the track test if MS was at the wheel. Stiggifying him was just a stunt.

It certainly was. I wonder what they're going to make of Koenigseggeggeggegg* taking over Saab, though? * Spelling it isn't a problem; knowing when to stop spelling it is. ;)

I must admit I didn't know of that one! Reconnecting to Network Rail seems to be en-vogue at the moment. The Swanage line are already there, and the Weardale and Wensleydale lines aren't far behind. At least one of the lines ATOC wants to re-open fully is actually a preserved line, too. be interesting to see what happens with that one, I suspect.

Sure, the Stig isn't Schumi but I still thought it was fantastic to see him on the stage. But there is no way he'd put up with Clarkson, May and Hamster for one day a week. I remember reading that Ben Collins (BTCC driver) was the "regular" Stig. *car-porn shots of Lotus Evora* Fianceé: Oooh, that's nice. Paul: It's British. Fianceé: No way. Paul: Yeah, Lotus, turnip farmers in England make em. Fianceé: Hmmm... think I'd prefer a Ferrari then. Paul: But it's Lotus, it's really good! Fianceé: Naah, it's British. Paul: Aston Martin is British. So is Jaguar. You like them. Fianceé: Sure but... they transced Britain. Paul: It does 30mpg, that is really good, for a sports car. Fianceé: Ooooh, and it has back seats. Fianceé: But no, sorry, it's British, and not Aston or a Jag. Paul: I'd love a Lotus...

                      cheers, Paul M. Watson.

I think they'll love it. Take the corporate GM cuffs off those mad Saab engineers. Maybe see the return of aircraft cockpit inspired dashboards. And if that doesn't work; stick a great big engine in a 9-5 and a Top Gear wing on the back. Koenigsaabsaabsaabsaabsaabsaab.

That was the first thing that I thought when the "Stig" came out. (At first I thought they may have dressed Hammond up.) I think most people had already guessed that it was just a stunt. Funny though! P.S. The Time reported that it is actually Ben Collins (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/article5548705.ece[^]).
