Weird, my experience has been entirely the opposite of yours. To me the Adobe reader is the vile monstrosity that fails often and the foxit reader is the lightweight alternative that just works every time quickly.

There are no words to describe this vile monstrosity of a codebase. I installed it to try and read specifications a little quicker. It's infested my Fx installation, and now nothing happens when I navigate to any PDF file, whether it's locally stored or available elsewhere. Uninstalling it only seems to make things worse. At the moment, I've got an Adobe Reader plugin, and a disabled FoxIt Reader plugin. If I enable the FoxIt Reader, every PDF file loaded displays the message "FoxitReaderOCX.ocx failed to load". No wonder most people use Adobe Reader. I've upgraded Fx to the release candidate for 3.5, and have purged all my temporary files. I'm about to try reinstalling and then uninstalling FoxIt. I hate FoxIt like the plague [edit] Installing, then uninstalling seemed to do the trick. Isn't that intuitive?

Huh? Its like you're describing Adobe Acrobat. I've been using FoxIt for a while now, and not one hiccup.

Does the current version of foxit have a vista/weven compatible updater? The one I installed around the start of the year pukes every time it tries to update itself.

Dunno but the website says "Foxit Reader supports Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista." so maybe just download and install it?

I run it on several machines here at the office and at home, and I'll take Foxit over Adobe Reader any day of the week. There are at least 10 developers here, that I know of, that use it, and no one has ever said it's been a problem. You running IE8 or something?

That happened too. I think I'm the only person here who prefers Adobe Reader. Then again, spending a few hours trying to manually remove as much as possible of that stupid program does usually have that effect

Funny. I was using FoxIt for a while and it felt much lighter than Acrobate Reader. However, I hit some PDFs that it would not display properly so I switched back to Acrobate.

No. I'm using Fx 3.5 RC 2 at the moment, but the problem was also with version 3.0.11. Ironically, IE7 had no problem with the pages

It made that claim 6 mo ago, but was somewhat buggy. I was wondering if anyone who installed it more recently knew it they fixed it...

I prefer adobe reader for very large tech manuals. It's search sidebar with context information around every hit is much easier than a modal find dialog with next/preb buttons. For smaller documents foxit's faster loading time is much preferred. Neither is permitted to blight my browsers as a plugin.

The only complaint I have about Foxit, is that it nags me to download, usually non free, add ons, rather too frequently.

The thing I hate most about it is its horrible font rendering though. So bad that I even complained to them. Geez what a joke. It makes most of the text look purple with "Clear"Type enabled and it makes all the text look bold when it's disabled. Actually not just bold, but bold with crappy artifacts. I have not yet decided what's worse - the purple or the bold+artifacts. Both are very bad. Reminds me of WPF's font rendering. How about actually clear font rendering instead of BlurryRainbowType(tm) that passes for "cleartype"? Is it too much to ask? It should in fact be easier to implement. Yea ok, that was a rant, sorry ;P

Knowing Adobe, I wouldn't be surprised if they included something in their recent acrobat reader installations that sabotaged FoxIt. Dig into your registry, and look at the settings that Adobe puts in there (of course, you'll have to do it logged on as an administrator, and change the permissions for the Adobe entries -- they seem to believe that they have the right to deny you permission to view whole chunks of your registry). Like everyone else, I've never had a problem with Foxit -- and the sheer joy of seeing an 800-page PDF open in about a second, then not stall when I try to do such foolish things as scroll past graphics, is wonderful. What makes me laugh is that the full version of Acrobat, which I have to use, requires more disc space than MS Word, but it can't even create a file. I remember I used to carry around two separate postscript interpreters on a single floppy disc; Acrobat needs a DVD.

People don't post real problems. It's the schadenfreude of knowing nobody can Google it because you couldn't. That's why there are so few articles on ASP.NET data binding that don't use the built in collection based binding.
