There are such models. I never saw them personally but the rumor has it that they exists.

I think the rumor is based on creatures that once existed and now are an endangered species if not already extinct. :)

Unless you're an idiot buying a house strictly as a status symbol as a single person/childless couple your house is almost certainly smaller than that of a parents house because you don't need as much space. Then factor in that since you have no direct use for an excellent school you don't need to pay extra for a location that offers one.

I agree with that. Like I said, I haven't read the article so I don't know the details of how they arrived at the figure, but including housing seems like it could skew the figure drastically. One child in million dollar house, three kids in a 200K house, etc. I guess I'd have to check out the article to know, but I can't be bothered because I couldn't care less. :)

I really, really hate that expression. Before I married, we lived together like man and wife. You know, no sex and lots of arguments. :-D The divorce solved the arguments bit anyway.

We spent the most on our rings--about $2500 US for the two. The rest of it was about $2000 I think. We did have a banquet hall but had "fun" food like mini tacos and a giant cheese ball. Hubby's aunt made the punch. We hate wedding cake so we got cheesecakes from Sam's Club instead. I rented a few decorations for tables. Made my own invitations and programs. Got a discount on the DJ since he was a friend. And NO country music or things like the Chicken Dance were allowed. Was a pretty good day. As a former wedding photographer I learned the more you focus on the wedding day and not the day after the wedding going forward, chances of long term marriage diminish.

You've never been to a Jewish wedding I take it? If I really pushed and ran around like a headless chicken it can be done for under £15,000 or cheaper if I was to have it in Israel. Or cut down on guests.

Nope, but I've been to a Greek wedding with 650 guests. Doesn't guarantee a successful marriage. I'd rather express my love in less showy ways and use the money to have a more comfortable life.

We've been married 10 years. It's less about the wedding day and more about every day you'll spend together afterwards.

Ours probably cost about the same - I can't remember, it was 33 years ago. We then hitch hiked around Tasmania for the honeymoon. You can keep the big expensive wedding, I'll hang on to the last 33 years.

Due to be getting married next month and on a VERY, VERY tight budget. Over the last 10 years I have been slowly paying back my technological drug habit expenses(new tech = must get it). We asked the local registry office (which is a nice venue for the wedding itself, leaving just the reception to sort out) and they said £108 for us to get married there with 30 people watching. Rings start at ~£500 for the pair, Dress ~£1000. We are currently looking at about £5000 total cost, but then we did set our date about a week ago as the date is the only one left this year!
