How much exercise do you get and what are you going to do about It?

none. need more. gonna buy some runnin shoes tomorrow.
Sissy: http://runningbarefoot.org/[^] Actually in all seriousness you should read up before you buy a pair because a lot of people find that the more heavily padded the shoes the more likely you are to get injured. I'd buy a pair of these [^]if they sold them around here.

I run about 5 times per week.
- 3 mornings to work, 9 km each.
- 3 afternoons from work, 9 km each (doh!).
- 1 long Saturday run, somewhere between 16 and 28 km.
- 1 Sunday interval exercise, 6x1 km or 10x400m, of course with 2 km warmup and 2 km cooldown.
So, I'm running on average 70-90 km per week.
keencomputer asked:
what are you going to do about It?
Hmmm... a tough one. I'd like to do more intervals, but not more training days per week. What a dilemma, huh?

I go riding my motocross bike three times a week for 2-3 hours. It's a great workout and fun :) Also clears my mind.

I play squash and badminton and go indoor climbing / bouldering once a week. I'm currently getting ready for a marathon in October so I'm also running about 30 miles a week with some stretching to cool down. At weekends I try to do something interesting outdoors like sailing, climbing or skydiving. What am I going to do about it? Try to find a contract job that allows me to get away for a decent length of time once a year and do some exiting stuff without wasting my life away at a desk?

Monday: Run 4-5 miles. Tuesday: Lift weights. Wednesday: Bike to work, 12 miles. Run 6 miles. Bike home, 12 miles. Thursday: Lift weights. Friday: Run 5-7 miles. Saturday/Sunday: Bike (varies). What am I going to do about it? Never stop, I hope.

I cycle in and out of work (only 15 mins, and I take it easy) and do weight training once or twice a week (more often would be counterproductive due to recovery time anyway, unless you're really well-built already which I'm not). Also trying to get into swimming on my non-gym days, since the whole complex is about a 4 minute walk from my desk - otherwise I don't do much cardio in the gym... swimming is much more fun. Having a ridiculously conveniently located gym makes it easier to overcome my natural laziness :)

Rowing, 5+ times a week... when the weathers good that is, otherwise it's the gym.

Wow, using an actual boat? I resort to a rowing machine. Less fresh air, but also less weather dependent ;) Also I get myself instant rewards for doing this by watching an episode of some series, 40-45 minutes each. Worked my way through all seasons of Babylon 5 and almost one season of Stargate by now. Ok, now I only need to up my frequency to more than once a week ... :-D

I sure hope so. If that was before breakfast I'd see a doctor.

Indeed. I own my own boat and I toddle up and down the Thames in it. Me in my boat :) [^]

I do the same as well, I've got my rowing machine less than 2m away. Although I do it for 2 episodes. It's a bit of a pain having to change it over sometimes, but it gives me a break. It's even more annoying when I'm watching 20min episodes.

I run 4.5 mi. every day. I eat smart--a Big Mac a month, and a milkshake a month, but other than that, very little red meat. Lots of fish and veggies. Depressing? Far from it. Once I got used to it, I found that I actually prefer it. I skipped the Big Mac last month. Oh yes--the payoff: I lost fifty pounds in six months (please, no Brit jokes about doing that in a night of cards), and I'm in my best shape in thirty years. I hike the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim twice a year. And I feel great. Not bad for pushing sixty.

i'm actually planning on getting a pair of 5fingers - because i am trying to find a way to avoid the constant knee/foot/hip pain running normally causes. i just didn't want to get into the whole explanation of them :)

I take Muay Thai Kickboxing twice a week and sparring on Fridays. I also use an exercise ball to sit on at my desk. It keeps the abs engaged during the day and really does help.

I've recently tried doing something about this. We all sit in front of a screen/whiteboard for 8-10hrs a day right? So I've tried to find some things I can do for that block of time. So far I've come up with: A) Balancing on a yoga balance ball instead of an office chair - works the abs, side abs, and lower back B) Keep a hand weight near the desk - compiling, building, waiting for unit tests = curling time it's too soon to tell how well its working, but I figure if I was working out even at a low tempo for 8-10hrs EVERY DAY, i'd be pretty toned up. anyone else trying this sort of thing?

I've worn through my first pair, and I wouldn't want to run in anything else.
