If they can't answer, tell them they aren't paying attention and you aren't going to keep answering their questions if they don't renember your answers. And if they manage to answer correctly, then keep pumping them full of information![^] ;P

I usually tell them to ask a complete question. Simply saying "Why?" is not enough. The response "Why what?" is a good starter, there. Then, if their question makes sense, I will answer it in an age-appropriate fashion. But as soon as they stop making valid questions, or are unable to grasp the complexity, I cut them off. Actually, this should be required for adults, as well.
Codemonkeys don't do it at all. Too busy coding.
