Is there a definitive list of every UK tax? By list I mean a clear one page list.

Wow that would be a long list. I bet the new taxes that have been sneaked in over the last 12 months wouldn't even fit on one page....

Seems that nearly every day the government invents some problem or sees some opportunity and their solution is almost always to bring in a new tax. People overweight, bring in a fat tax on food! Banks corrupt, tax the banks more (who then pass it onto consumers). Transport infrastructure bad, bring in a congestion charge and tax fuel more. Combined with how much they've been borrowing to spend on pointless crap and how much debt they're now in it's only going to get worse :(

There approximately 300,000 pages on uk tax code! There are at present in excess of 900 different taxes and surcharges and duties applicable, with more on the way. Tax law represents over 75% of all law made in Britain.

I'm going to start taxing people for the use of the word "the". I'm sure it'll catch on.

As an idea think about this. There is VAT at 15% Reclaimable 15% Non-reclaimable 5% Reclaimable 5% Non-reclaimable 0% Exempt Oustide the Scope That is 7 Taxes where people usually think of just 1 Then there is Car related taxes, Fuel Duty, RFL, New Car Purchase Tax, MOT Charge, Licence Renewal Charge, Toll Road Funding, Oil Product Tax (Charged on Oil not fuel). There is Stamp Duties at variable rates, HIP Charges, Council Taxes, Capital Gains Taxes, Document Tax etc all on your home. In industry there are Corporation taxes, Employers NI Tax, NDR's, Waste disposal taxes. They all add up. There are the rare ones that people do not know about like Petro-Chemical Production Duty, which is paid on the 15th of each month and this pays the Civil Service Salaries. There is Animal Movement Taxes, Alcohol Gravity Tax, (which is seperate from Duty paid on a pint or a bottle of Scotch), and how about War Chest Reserve Tax? This is paid by Armaments Manufactures and is chargeable at 0.1% of Gross Turnover and was brought in to pay off the debt accrued during the Crimean War and is still on the books! Plus all the usual suspects like the three rates of income tax and the two rates of NI, Ciggies, Insurance Premium Tax and Imports and Exports taxes. Landing Fees, Depature Taxes and various Windfall taxes. How about S38 and S106 fees for land development. And I have barely touched the surface!!

How much do you know about Indian tax laws? :)

Cheers, Vikram. (Cracked not one CCC, but two!)
