While his name doesn't really give it away, Sir Ranulph Twistleton-Wickam-Fiennes,Bt, OBE[^], is a truly remarkable example of a man.

The sort of character who, at one time, would have been universally admired in Britain and abroad. Not so in 21st century Britain where even photographing your children is considered a crime.

The man is a legend, a true inspiration to a generation lacking in heroes.

I'm inclined to agree with you. Impatient at the pain the dying fingertips caused, Fiennes removed them himself (in his garden shed) with an electric saw. Amazing fellow thanks for sharing, Mike

"So there I was surrounded by 57 vicious pygmies, all wielding rather interesting iron blades. Damn bastards had interrupted my tea. One of them cuts off my leg, un-bloody reasonable if you ask me. Spent the next 10 minutes hopping around bludgeoning the rest of 'em with it. All I can say is thank God I was wearing my spike boots that day, makes a terrible mess of the face. Anyhow one of the party was a surgeon so we sewed it back on with a pen knife, screwdriver and some strings. Stung a little I must confess, still gives me the odd pain. Tea was cold after that, bloody nonsense."

Right. Now you only have to be a completely useless prat and "act" in a movie or "sing" a pop song.
