Dried, salted cod - as you were in Norway, thought you were Norwegian - silly me. I had it when I was in Norway - very nice. Don't know what the price is like to buy - everything in Norway seemed insanely expensive.
Java, Basic, who cares - it's all a bunch of tree-hugging hippy cr*p

There are loads of pasta dishes without meat. Pasta is really good with cauliflower and brocolli. Lasagne made with vegetables and green lentils. Stir fried vegetables with rice. Vegetable and bean chilli Mushroom rissotto

I am a bit partial to a chilli. But, I normally cook that when I'm over here 'cause I can make a big batch and have it a for a few days. Saves cooking everynight. :)

That one sounds good, I do like lentils.

You betcha, and it's the same with food. If I ate like I did in the UK when I'm here, I would quite literally eat my way through my wages!!

It is - I really enjoyed it. I was quite surprised at the quality of the beef I had in Norway as well - very nice. I also had some salmon, very good, and mussels - best I've ever had.

And you've not even mentioned the price of alcohol yet...

Hehehe! Yeah, I don't go to pubs here!! I get some duty free and bring it over. I think £8 for a bottle of beer is a little to much!!

When I lived alone I used to do things like that, make enough for a couple of days. My Indian Name was Two-Days-Running as everything lasted that long. No I am with Michelle, nothing last for one day! (Esp. Chocolate).

I need to cook for myself, I've had pasta for the last few nights. Anyone got any recipe suggestions for one :(( ? Bearing in mind I'm in Norway so a few chicken breasts will set me back about £10. I'm not opposed to vegetarian recipes (in fact the only vegetarian recipe I know is pasta without meat). At the moment I'm getting a pizza. But I really don't want to eat that. [Edit] A little help? Right! Got loads of ideas!! Off to the shops now.
Thank-you all!!!

Grilled Salmon with boiled new potatoes and asparagus served with a rich Hollandaise sauce. That's what I'm doing...
Panic, Chaos, Destruction. My work here is done.

Actually, that's not a bad idea. Mr Dootson mentioned fish as well. I normally whack the Salmon in some foil, bit of olive oil, some herbs, salt and pepper. Whang it in the oven, 20 minutes later out it pops, add some potatoes and veg. And the hollandaise sauce only makes it better!

Assuming you speak only of the noodles, what vegetables do pasta contain?

Not to mention salmon is cheaper than chicken in Norway. Maintaining a high-protein diet in Norway is expensive. I generally go through two dozen eggs a week and a few pounds of salman. Vegetables and bread are relatively inexpensive compared to meats... but I am a voracious carnivore. Best Wishes, -David Delaune

I still do. Just bought 2Kg of mince to turn into chilli in the slow cooker tomorrow. It takes the same time to make two portions! What we don't eat, I will freeze in 8oz bags and eat later.

:omg: 20 minutes? Wow that must be a monster salmon or you really like it overdone. I like it as deboned fillets pan fried with the skin on in a super hot pan so it's crispy skin but only about one second beyond raw in the very center so it's nice and crispy on the outside but creamy and soft on the inside. Mmmmm...! You're lack of cheap protein would drive me nuts living there.

Well it's definitely not overdone! I think it comes down to the fact that we have a really old crappy oven. I think Helen of Troy used to have the exact same one. Meh, but salmon is cheap out here (in comparison to most other stuff) so I tend to get a nice BIG chunk. Yummers!! :-D
