FYI, that "news" was that MS was apparently claiming rights over all software that would be placed on their SourceForge-like project management severs. Someone should poke that lawyer's eye out. -c

Someone should poke that lawyer's eye out. Yeah! I had read the licence and it was, well ,a kind of abuse ... but I didn't read the new, perphaps it's more acceptable ? Cheers,Joao Vaz And if your dream is to care for your family, to put food on the table, to provide them with an education and a good home, then maybe suffering through an endless, pointless, boring job will seem to have purpose. Is kind of ironic , fun and sad that http://www.gotdotnet.com[^] was slashdotted ( cannot access the site :-( ) !!! Due to this news http://developers.slashdot.org/developers/02/10/15/0256233.shtml?tid=109[^] The revenge of Linux :wtf: Cheers,Joao Vaz And if your dream is to care for your family, to put food on the table, to provide them with an education and a good home, then maybe suffering through an endless, pointless, boring job will seem to have purpose. I guess research into the issue isn't something that slashdot does. If they would have taken the time to research SF, they would have noticed SF has nearly the EXACT SAME CLAUSE. *sigh* Tim Smith "Programmers are always surrounded by complexity; we can not avoid it... Tim Smith wrote: guess research into the issue isn't something that slashdot does. In this particular case , since sourceforge.net is a prime sponsor ... you get my point . in all fairness, there are a number of high-rated posts in the story pointing this out. so, even though the guy who submitted the story didn't do his research, the /. readers are aware of the apparent hypocracy. -c

Chris Losinger wrote: there are a number of high-rated posts in the story pointing this out. That's very true - it's too easy to look at the amount of twerps on the site and write it off completely. However, one needs to do much, much less wading thru stupid whiny garbage at CP than at /. I hope CP stays small in that respect - the amount of outspoken idiots in a crowd increases proportionally to the size of the crowd participating. -- Russell Morris "Have you gone mad Frink? Doh!!! I guess I didn't do my research.:laugh: Still not use to slashdot posting "all the news that fits" from any Joe Blow out there. :) the /. editors still chose to run the story - so your point is still valid that they don't research (and they get reamed about it nearly every day). luckily, some of the /. readers know what's up. -c

One thing that the SF statement mentions is that it respects whatever the projects source license is. So if the code is licensed under GPL then SF can't do anything not permitted under GPL. Haven't read the MS version, I would suspect that the initial annoyance was partially over not even respecting the code authors project license. ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire!
