I am a PC and Windows 7 was my idea
-
Is it only me or somebody else here also thinks that the Microsoft Marketing should have come up with a better ads for Windows 7. "I am a PC and Windows 7 was my idea" does not impress me a bit. On the other hand, I feel that Mac ads are a lot better.
If I were running the company, after demoting Steve B to the janitorial staff and firing Ozzie the Astronut, I'd take Microsoft Marketing out back and beat them severely with a large stick, fire them all, and get some fresh blood, hopefully a tad more competent.

Think of it as a Vaudville act... The PC guy is the funny one, and the Mac guy is the straight man... He's not supposed to be funny, just provide contrast for the funny one.
Proud to have finally moved to the A-Ark. Which one are you in? Author of Guardians of Xen (Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel)

I don't think you, I and many of the people here are in their target group. We're the kind of people who look for the new features on our own and critque them before deciding to upgrade. Microsoft is targeting the masses, many of whom will upgrade or buy a new PC sooner when they see what great things await them. In that sense, I think they work perfectly and separate themselves from the Mac ads which, although funny, really just preach to the choir. Cheers, Drew.

Well it has changed a lot in the past 3 years. I think it will keep rising.

You think they'll ever get back to 4% of the global market - their high?

It is already 3.86% and based on the current growth trend, they will easily reach 4%. Part of the reason is that their hardware is getting cheaper.

And part of the reason was called Vista - but that's yesterday, not tomorrow. Mac's will always be a niche machine. Nice, cute, even sexy. But even before Weven they dropped from fourth place to fifth place in U.S. sales, hardly exciting news for the marketing dept.

Of course, they will remain a niche market till they try to make major inroads into the Enterprise market. From my own personal experience, I see more and more people buying mac. They also had a great October[^]. As long as the sales are increasing it should not be of a grave concern where one is positioned in the marketplace.

I would expect them to have 20% by 2020 depending on the development of wine. Windows7 may however reverse this trend.

I would put the switch to Intel CPUs, Vista and Viruses being the top 3 reasons.

You failed to notice wheat those sales were... In the market for high end machines, Mac is dominating everyone else. They had 87% of the sales for machines over $1.5K(US) in one study I saw. That may not seem like much, and not exciting to some, but when you consider that the profit margin from that segment is huge it starts looking better. Yes, the other 96% or the world is buying netbooks and $200 cruddy desktops which give the manufacturers $50 a pop total. Meh. When the other 4$% of the market is dropping the real money on machines, the figure doesn't look bad. If Apple does put a tablet out there or a netbook of some sort and makes it really cheap just to tap into that other 96%, I'd be scared if I was the other guys. Really, Weven works fine with a Mac. So if you were Windows, would you be rooting for Dell, HP, or the one company that tightly controls hardware (making it easier to code for drivers and devices) and that the user won't have an OEM license but has to buy a new one for their machine? Not like they care what sort of machines large organizations use, those folks buy license agreements. As it is, I do think the advertising campaign for "I'm a mac and I'm a PC" is hilarious only for what the PC will be doing this time. It doesn't change the fact that of the 4 machines we own, not one is a mac. We play video games on our PCs, work machines are for work and while I'd love an Apple they have been stupid when it comes to games.

So the reason their sales are dominating the high end market according to you is because their hardware is getting cheaper according to others? Mac has always cost more than a PC for the same amount of computing power. Probably always will.

And yet, old farts like me can remember when games were created first for Apple and then ported over to the PC. IMHO, Apple will start to be a force to reckon with in the real world when, and if, it's possible to have the same gaming experience and choices on a high-end Mac as on a high-end PC.
